Former OpenAI Employee Who Accused the Company of Copyright Infringement Found Dead
According to The Times of India, 26-year-old Suchir Balaji, who was an outspoken critic of OpenAI for copyright infringement in AI training, was found dead in his apartment. The developer was previously an employee of the company and helped create ChatGPT.
In August this year, Suchir Balaji accused OpenAI of using copyrighted content to train neural networks. He later gave an interview to The New York Times, where he detailed his accusations and claimed that OpenAI was violating US laws to gain an advantage over competitors, increasing its value by $150 billion. His points were going to be used to investigate the cases of writers, journalists, and programmers who also accused the company of using copyrighted content.
However, on November 26, Suchir Balaji's body was found in his apartment in San Francisco. The forensic examination concluded that the developer committed suicide. The police are currently denying the murder version.
Billionaire and entrepreneur Elon Musk responded to the news of his death by reposting it on his social media page. Recall that in early December, the head of SpaceX demanded that OpenAI be banned from becoming a commercial enterprise.
