Nintendo has rolled out system update 20.1.0 for the Switch, just days before the highly anticipated Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, 2025.
Here’s what’s new in the update:
- Visual enhancements in Parental Controls settings;
- The sound that plays when launching Nintendo Switch Online from the main menu has been changed — it now has a more “fun” vibe and will likely be the same on the Switch 2;
- General system stability improvements.
Interface themes have also been refreshed: “Basic White” and “Basic Black” have been replaced with “Basic Light” and “Basic Dark.” The dark theme is now supported in the NSO app as well.
The NSO interface has received minor tweaks, including new navigation sounds — all likely part of an effort to unify the user experience with the upcoming Switch 2.
To transfer data from your Nintendo Switch to the Switch 2 via local connection, your Switch must be updated to version 20.1.0.
