Collector's Oddity: ASUS GPU Turns Out to Be a Radeon-GeForce Hybrid

Arkadiy Andrienko

A routine warranty swap took an unexpected turn for a Redditor. Rather than receiving a standard ASUS TUF Gaming Radeon RX 9070 XT OC, he ended up with a truly one-of-a-kind GPU that somehow merges AMD Radeon and NVIDIA GeForce RTX branding.

The story began when Reddit user Fantastic-Ad8410 experienced issues with his graphics card and requested a replacement from the retailer. The new card’s exterior and packaging perfectly matched an RX 9070 XT — until a closer inspection at home revealed something bizarre: The top of the cooler prominently displayed "GeForce RTX," while the backplate and specs clearly identified it as a Radeon.

The mix-up stems from ASUS’s manufacturing shortcut. The company uses near-identical cooler designs for its high-end AMD and NVIDIA models, like the Radeon RX 9070 XT and GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, thanks to their similar thermal output and dimensions. This cost-saving approach, however, occasionally leads to awkward assembly line slip-ups. In this case, a plastic fan shroud meant for a GeForce model was mistakenly mounted onto a Radeon PCB.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first such incident lately — just a month ago, another user reported a GeForce RTX 5070 Ti sporting a Radeon logo. Reactions in the community are split. Some warn the "frankenstein card" could raise eyebrows if resold, while others argue it’s a potential collector’s item destined to appreciate in value.

ASUS hasn’t commented, but the blunder highlights ongoing questions about quality control. As for the owner of this peculiar RX 9070 XT? He’ll have to decide whether to put it to work or preserve it as a cabinet curiosity for tech collectors.
