Not Just AirPods Pro 3 — Apple Reveals Which Other Headphone Models Will Get Live Translation

Apple has announced that it’s expanding the Live Translation feature (real-time automatic translation), which debuted with the AirPods Pro 3, to older models as well — specifically, AirPods 4 with active noise cancellation and AirPods Pro 2.
To use the feature, you’ll need AirPods running the latest firmware and an iPhone with iOS 26 or later (supported on iPhone 15 Pro and newer). The firmware update is expected to roll out alongside the official release of iOS 26 on September 15.
Live Translation lets you speak naturally while wearing your AirPods, with your iPhone displaying a real-time transcript and translation for conversation partners who aren’t using AirPods. If both people in the conversation are using compatible AirPods, the feature works even better — active noise cancellation automatically lowers the other person’s voice, helping you focus on the translation without interrupting the natural flow of the conversation.
At launch, supported languages for translation include English (both US and UK), French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, and Spanish. Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese will be added later.
AirPods Pro 3 are already available for pre-order, with the official release set for September 19. The retail price is $249.
