MediaTek's Dimensity 9500 Drops Efficiency Cores for an All-Performance CPU Design

MediaTek has launched its new smartphone flagship, the Dimensity 9500 system-on-chip. Fabricated on TSMC's 3nm process, the chip promises major gains in both performance and power efficiency for future high-end devices.

The most striking feature of this new flagship is its completely revamped architecture. Breaking from the conventional big.LITTLE design, the Dimensity 9500 uses a configuration of nothing but high-performance ARM C1 cores. This setup includes one C1-Ultra core clocked at 4.21 GHz, three C1-Premium cores at 3.5 GHz, and four C1-Pro cores running at 2.7 GHz. According to MediaTek, this delivers a 32% boost in single-core performance over its predecessor.

On power efficiency, MediaTek claims to have achieved a 55% reduction in power consumption for the most powerful core under peak loads. This should significantly improve battery life, especially during gaming marathons and extended AI application sessions.

Gaming performance also gets a substantial upgrade. The new Arm G1-Ultra GPU boasts a 33% performance increase and supports ray tracing at up to 120 frames per second. With optimizations for the Unreal Engine 5, the chip brings a console-level gaming experience to smartphones—a rarity for mobile devices.

AI capabilities haven't been overlooked. The integrated NPU 990 is now powerful enough to generate 4K images and work with complex large language models, speeding up their response times. Support for UFS 4.1 memory in a four-channel configuration doubles data read/write speeds, which accelerates the loading of these AI models. For photography, the new Imagiq 1190 ISP enables 4K video recording at 120 fps and supports camera sensors of up to 200 megapixels.

According to sources, the first smartphones to feature the Dimensity 9500 will be the Vivo X300 and the OPPO Find X9. An announcement is expected in mid-October, with a wider market rollout of devices using the new chip scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2025.
