The smartphone market is facing a noticeable price increase in the coming years. During a discussion of the company's financial results, Xiaomi President Lu Weibing directly pointed to the inevitability of price hikes for end consumers in the near future. Prices for memory chips, which are critically important for mobile device manufacturing, continue to rise steadily. This is linked to supply chains being reconfigured to meet the needs of the rapidly developing artificial intelligence industry.
Major chip manufacturers, such as Samsung, are massively shifting their production capacity towards manufacturing high-performance memory for AI servers. As a result, the output of simpler chips used in smartphones and other consumer electronics is noticeably decreasing, leading to a shortage and subsequent increase in component costs.
We anticipate that cost pressure will be significantly higher next year, and some of this pressure will have to be offset by adjusting retail prices. However, these measures will not be enough to fully absorb the increase in costs.
Thus, the company warns that even raising prices on its products will not fully compensate for the growing costs. This means manufacturers will have to seek additional ways to optimize in order to maintain their competitiveness in the market.
