Acer and ASUS Prepare to Adjust PC Prices Amid Rising Memory Costs

Computer manufacturers are increasingly talking about the need to adjust prices for their products due to the steep rise in the cost of DDR5 memory and solid-state drives. According to Asian business media, following Dell and Lenovo, Taiwan-based Acer and ASUS are also warning of possible price increases.

Additional pressure on the market, according to industry reports, has come from HP Inc. After unsuccessful attempts to secure sufficient memory volumes from South Korean manufacturers, the company was forced to turn to Chinese suppliers, accelerating price growth in the region. Market participants do not rule out that in the first quarter, the price of a 16 GB DDR5 module could approach the $300 mark, while the second quarter is expected to remain just as unstable.

Acer notes that memory typically accounts for around 8–10% of a PC’s component cost. With memory prices rising by 30–50% between the third and fourth quarters, this has added an average of 2–3% to laptop production costs. To keep prices in check, some manufacturers have already begun revising base configurations by reducing the amount of installed RAM. ASUS management also does not expect a quick improvement in the situation. According to the company’s executives, price stabilization in the memory market should not be expected before the second half of next year. Acer, meanwhile, hopes that increased output from Chinese DRAM manufacturers will eventually help ease market pressure.

In the short term, the market is being supported by inventories of finished laptops and previously purchased components, but more noticeable price changes may emerge as early as the second quarter of 2026. In a mature market, even moderate price increases can affect demand: if prices rise by up to 20%, laptop sales in the first quarter could fall by around 10% year over year, with the decline potentially deepening to 20% in the second quarter.
