OnePlus Denies Shutdown Rumors Amid Ongoing Challenges in India

Robin Liu, CEO of OnePlus India, has issued an official statement on X, refuting information about the company ceasing operations entirely. Earlier, reports emerged about the potential winding down of the brand's business globally.

In his address, Liu labeled the media reports as "false and unverified," stressing that OnePlus's operational activities continue as normal. He also urged partners and customers to verify information through official communication channels. Despite the categorical denial, analysts note a shrinking presence for the brand in key regions. According to Omdia Research data, OnePlus's global smartphone sales fell by 20% in 2024. In India, one of its largest markets, around 4,500 retail outlets have stopped selling the company's products, leading to a drop in market share from 6.1% to 3.9%.

The situation in North America remains less clear. Android Authority points to a lack of public comment from OnePlus's US division, leaving room for questions about its future strategy in this market.

Amid intensifying competition, the company has adjusted its product approach. The OnePlus 15 model, released in November 2025, focused on performance over camera capabilities, which allowed for a lower price point. According to unconfirmed reports, the next flagship iteration, the OnePlus 16, may feature a higher-capacity battery.

Currently, there is no official data on any restructuring or strategic changes within the company. However, indirect signs, including reduced retail presence and declining sales, point to a challenging period for the brand, which is being forced to adapt to changes in the smartphone market.
