Google Integrates Gemini 3 into AI Search Summaries and Streamlines Conversational Flow

Google has rolled out a significant update to its search engine on mobile devices. Since late January, key changes have been implemented in the AI Overviews and AI Mode functions, aimed at improving the quality and convenience of user interaction.

The primary innovation is the shift to a new AI model. Gemini 3 is now the default for generating concise summaries in search results. Previously, this model was used selectively to handle the most complex queries. According to Google, deploying Gemini 3 as the standard for all users worldwide will enable the generation of more accurate, reliable, and detailed summaries in response to search questions.

The second important change concerns the user interface. The company has simplified the transition from viewing a ready-made AI overview to engaging in a full-fledged dialogue. Users can now ask a follow-up question or request additional information directly within the summary card, without initiating a new search. This activates the AI Mode, where the context of the original query is preserved, making the conversation more coherent and in-depth.

As noted by Robby Stein, Vice President of Product for Google Search, testing showed that users prefer precisely this smooth transition to a dialogue. The interface has become more cohesive and adaptive: it provides a quick answer when needed and allows for a deep dive into detailed discussion if desired.

The updated functionality is already available in the Google mobile app for iOS and Android.
