PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are officially recognized as retro consoles due to the lack of Fortnite
PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii U are now retro consoles. GameStop, a major retail chain, has put an end to the disputes that have been going on for the past few years. The retailer has officially put these platforms on a par with the Sega Saturn and the Nintendo DS.
The generation of consoles from the PS3 era doesn't seem too old to many. Games on these devices continued to be released in the second half of the 2010s, and there are also modern games like Grand Theft Auto 5. However, there is a serious argument for this: almost 20 years have passed since the start of console sales.
GameStop, one of the largest networks selling consoles, games, and accessories, has announced that it now considers PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii U to be retro devices.
«The ruling was reached following careful analysis of multiple indicators including: the presence of component cables, the lack of Fortnite, and the realization that they launched when George W. Bush was still president. Under GameStop's Retro Classification Standard, the aforementioned systems will now join the ranks other of beloved legacy hardware in the retro category, such as the Sega Saturn and the Nintendo DS».
The retailer also announced that it has included the consoles in a promotion called Retro Trade-In Bonus. Now you can donate your PS3, Xbox 360 or Wii U and get a 10% discount on your next purchase.
It seems that the era of this generation of consoles is really passing away. In early March, it became known that the Netflix app would no longer work on PlayStation 3. For some users, the PS3 version of the streaming service remained a way to immerse themselves in nostalgia. In particular, it was possible to connect the console to a CRT TV and watch movies in 4:3 format.
Do you consider the PS3, Xbox 360 or Wii U to be retro devices? Or are they not that old yet?
