YouTube has started testing 90-second ads that cannot be scrolled through. The innovation so far concerns smart TV and streaming devices, according to the Android Authority.

Many users noticed the new unplugged commercials, which caused a heated discussion on social networks. The outrage, among other things, is caused by the fact that this contradicts the principles of YouTube itself. The service's policy allows for 30-second unplayable videos for smart TV.

By the way, the rules on mobile devices are even more lenient — no more than 15 seconds of non-permeable ads. This rule, apparently, has not been violated yet. Anyway, the innovation for smart TV suggests that Google is testing new advertising formats.

The Android Authority reports that advertising has always been the foundation of YouTube's business model, but due to the aggressive introduction of longer commercial breaks, video hosting has become similar to cable TV.

«30-second unskippable ads were already pushing the limits for many users, but the introduction of these new 90-second spots suggests YouTube is intensifying the pressure to nudge fence-sitters towards a Premium subscription».

By the way, in February it was reported that YouTube began to tighten the fight against ad blockers. Users of such extensions can now hide comments and descriptions of videos.

Are you ready to watch a 90-second commercial that you can't skip? Or would you decide to purchase a subscription in this case?
