“A Laptop Without a Brain”: Meet the VitaLink Keyboard with a 13-Inch 4K Display — Without a PC, It’s Just a Brick

On Kickstarter, fundraising has begun for the VitaLink – an unusual device that’s hard to pin down to any single gadget category. Basically, it’s a full-sized keyboard with a fold-out 13-inch touchscreen, but with no CPU, RAM, or battery of its own. It looks a lot like the bottom half of a compact laptop, but it can’t work on its own – you need to hook it up to an external device.

The screen is a display with a resolution of 3840 × 1600 pixels and an unusual 2.4:1 aspect ratio. The manufacturer claims support for ten-point multitouch, a 60 Hz refresh rate, and a pixel density of 298 PPI. This panel can be used as a secondary monitor for a laptop or desktop PC, or as the main display for compact systems like mini-PCs or single-board computers that are already being built into keyboards.

The keyboard is full-sized with a number pad on the right. It uses low-profile scissor-switch keycaps with customizable RGB backlighting. There are also front-firing stereo speakers built into the chassis – a feature that sets VitaLink apart from the few alternatives out there, like the KeyGo. The case is made of aluminum, with a folded thickness of 20 mm and a weight of 1.2 kg. The screen can tilt up to 180 degrees, which comes in handy when you’re working standing up or in a tight space.

For connectivity, there are two USB Type-C ports. The device is said to be compatible with Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android. The lack of a built-in battery means the VitaLink draws power from the connected device, making it better suited for stationary or semi-stationary setups where a keyboard-with-a-screen replaces a bulky monitor and peripherals.

Right now, the new device is available for pre-order on Kickstarter starting at $279, with shipments scheduled to begin in September 2026.
