OnePlus 16 Reveal Imminent: 9000 mAh Battery And A Screen That Beats Gaming Monitors
The web got a fresh batch of details about the OnePlus 16 smartphone, which the company is expected to unveil closer to the end of the year. This time around, insider Digital Chat Station shared some specs on the display and a few other features of the future flagship. If the info pans out, the device will pack a screen with a record-breaking refresh rate for the brand and a noticeably bigger battery.
According to the leak, the OnePlus 16 will come with a 6.78-inch LTPO panel, a 1.5K resolution, and bezels that could shrink to about 1mm. Among other things, it mentions support for the wide BT.2020 color space, which is still rare on mobile devices outside of pro monitors and TVs. The OnePlus 15 offered 165Hz, and its successor, according to the source, will be capable of running anywhere from at least 185Hz all the way up to 240Hz.
Under the hood, the OnePlus 16 is rumored to pack an as-yet-unannounced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset (SM8975), and paired with it is expected to be LPDDR6 RAM. That combo should deliver plenty of performance headroom for heavy gaming and multitasking, though the real picture won't be clear until independent tests come in. The camera setup also promises upgrades: a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide, and a 200MP periscope telephoto lens. If the leaks are right, OnePlus is going all in on a significant zoom improvement over the current generation.
Battery capacity, according to rumors, is getting a serious bump — up to around 9,000 mAh. Such a large battery, combined with the power efficiency of the new chip's (presumably) 2nm process, could deliver a massive boost in battery life, although you can't ignore the increased draw from that high-refresh-rate screen. Recently, OnePlus unveiled their new gaming device.
The estimated price for the base version with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage is $730. Sales are expected to kick off in China in October, with a global release traditionally following a bit later. How close these specs will be to the final product — time will tell. For now, it's a set of expectations painting a picture of a powerful flagship that still leaves some questions unanswered.
Is the race for refresh rates above 165–185Hz in smartphones justified, or is it just marketing overkill? And do smartphones even need LPDDR6? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
