Galaxy S27 Ultra Will Get Lighter and Pack a Bigger Battery, but There's a Catch

Samsung is prepping some noticeable changes for the Galaxy S27 series. According to Korean insider yeux1122, the company could be giving the flagship Galaxy S27 Ultra a major overhaul, while also launching a more compact Pro version for the first time.

The biggest change for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, if the leak is to be believed, will be a new camera module design. Samsung is said to be moving away from the usual individual camera lenses on the back and switching to a horizontal camera strip. At the same time, the company might remove the telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, leaving just a triple main camera setup. Rumor has it, dropping one of the telephoto lenses will free up space inside the body for a larger battery. The insider claims the Galaxy S27 Ultra will get a bigger battery while actually being lighter than current Ultra models. The source also mentions Samsung switching to new physical camera sensors. No exact specs yet, but this is about actual hardware upgrades, not just software image processing.

Another possible new addition to the lineup is the Galaxy S27 Pro. According to yeux1122, Samsung is testing a compact flagship with a screen around 6.4 inches. The device is positioned as a more convenient alternative to the big Ultra phones, but without major compromises on performance. The Galaxy S26 models ended up being pretty controversial because of different processors being used in phones for different regions.

That said, the insider notes that the final concept for the lineup could still change. Samsung is apparently considering different positioning options for the Pro model — everything from a true compact flagship to something in between the Plus and Ultra versions. Final specs could also be influenced by manufacturing costs. As for the Galaxy S27 Ultra's display, no radical changes are expected just yet. According to the source, Samsung might stick with the same materials and tech used in current screens, focusing mainly on software improvements and optimization.
