iOS 27 Leak Shows How Apple Is Rebuilding Its System Around AI

There's less than two weeks left until Apple's annual developer conference, and the first images of the iOS 27 interface have already surfaced online. They were published by Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the development.

The biggest changes are in store for the voice assistant, and in iOS 27, Siri is getting its own app, designed like chatbots such as ChatGPT or Claude. It will store your query history, let you upload files and photos, and switch between different AI models. Apple is also testing integration with Google's Gemini and Anthropic's Claude, and with user permission, the system will be able to send some requests directly to third-party services. Siri's interface will be built into the Dynamic Island — the assistant's status animations will appear in the screen cutout. The assistant will also learn to analyze what's on your screen, as well as peek into emails, notes, calendar, and other personal data. Apple's idea is that this will let Siri give more accurate and context-aware answers.

The Camera app in iOS 27 will become customizable. Apple will let you rearrange icons and bring pro tools right to the main shooting screen. If you often shoot with manual settings, you'll be able to keep exposure and white balance handy — if not, you can hide the clutter. Visual Intelligence, a feature mentioned a year ago, will also be integrated into the camera. Point the camera at an object, and Siri will recognize it and suggest actions. See a restaurant sign? You can book a table right away. Point it at a book, and you can look it up online. However, according to insiders, the feature will only work in the US at launch.

The Photos app will get AI tools for cropping and expanding image boundaries — similar to Samsung smartphones. The system will be able to generate missing parts of an image to change the composition. The updated Shortcuts app will gain natural language support. Instead of manually setting up action chains, you'll just type or say something like "when I get home, turn on Wi-Fi and play music," and the system will create the automation for you.
