Claude’s Creators Just Surpassed OpenAI: Anthropic Becomes the Most Valuable AI Company in the World
Anthropic has become the most valuable AI company in the world, surpassing OpenAI in business valuation. The developer behind the Claude family of models raised new investments, pushing its valuation to $965 billion. Against this backdrop, competition among the biggest players in the AI space is entering a new phase — now the battle isn’t just about users, but also about computing power, enterprise customers, and leadership in AI model development.
Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron — companies directly tied to memory production and server hardware for AI systems — have also joined the project. Around the same time the funding was announced, Anthropic unveiled its new model, Claude Opus 4.8. The company is doubling down on tools for coding, task automation, and so-called agentic scenarios, where the AI can independently carry out sequences of actions without constant user input.
Code generation and analysis is now considered one of the fastest-growing segments of the market. After Claude’s coding-focused updates, the company has been rapidly expanding its enterprise audience. According to Anthropic, hundreds of organizations are already using its products on a paid basis, with annualized revenue exceeding $47 billion. At the same time, Anthropic continues to push its “safe AI” agenda, and part of the new funding will go toward research into controlling and interpreting neural network behavior. The company also plans to broaden access to its AI models for cybersecurity — tools that were previously tested in a restricted mode due to potential misuse risks.
Not long ago, OpenAI with its ChatGPT was seen as the main symbol of the AI boom, but now Anthropic is steadily closing the gap — not just in funding, but also in influence among enterprise clients. Other players are adding more pressure, too. China’s DeepSeek recently released a new model with expanded capabilities, while the combined xAI and SpaceX entity under Elon Musk is aiming for an even higher valuation. All of this is turning the AI market into one of the most aggressive tech races in recent years.
While some companies are betting on general-purpose chatbots, others are trying to carve out narrow but highly profitable niches — from coding to cybersecurity and business process automation. Judging by the current investment trends, the enterprise segment is quickly becoming the main battleground for the biggest neural network developers.
What do you think — can Anthropic really challenge OpenAI in the mass market, or will Claude remain a developer-first tool? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
