Why a power bank? Honor is preparing a phone with an 11,000 mAh battery

Honor has announced the full unveiling date for the X80 Pro Max model. The phone will be shown off on June 22, 2026, in China, and the main focus of the announcement won't be the camera or performance, but a battery that outlasts most of today's power banks.

In its official teasers, the company is putting the spotlight on the 11,000 mAh figure — not only a record for Honor itself, but a very rare number for a traditional form-factor phone. The recently released Honor Power with its 8,000 mAh battery was already seen as a step toward "long-lasting" handsets, and now the bar has been raised by another third. The circular camera module visually resembles designs from other lineups, but it's more modest on the inside: the posters show just a single 50MP main camera with an LED flash and "Matrix 50MP X Series" engraving. It looks like additional lenses are either secondary or non-existent.

Honor hasn't equipped the X80 Pro Max with a flagship chip — underneath it's got a Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, a mid-range platform built for everyday tasks. The display is a 6.8-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 2788 × 1280, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 3,840Hz PWM dimming. That last spec matters for people sensitive to screen flicker. On top of that, the manufacturer is pushing the phone's durability, with four IP ratings all at once: IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K. Honor is also promising extra drop resistance and a free screen replacement program for accidental damage while the coverage is active.

The 11,000 mAh battery supports 90W wired charging and 27W reverse charging, letting you use the smartphone as an external power bank for headphones, a smartwatch, or another phone. According to listings from Chinese online retailers, the X80 Pro Max will come in four variants: 8/128GB, 8/256GB, 8/512GB, and 12/512GB. Expandable storage, leaks suggest, isn't in the cards. Pricing hasn't been announced at the time of writing, and it's exactly what will decide whether this new device remains a showcase of engineering muscle or actually becomes a truly mass-market model. Rivals like iQOO and realme are also cranking up capacities beyond 7,000 mAh, while niche players like Oukitel and Doogee have long been experimenting with numbers north of 10,000 mAh.

The Honor X series recently crossed the 130 million units sold mark, which explains why the company wants to cement that success with a headline-grabbing model. The battery race of 2025–2026 has become one of the biggest trends in the Chinese market, replacing the chase after megapixels and curved screens. Manufacturers are increasingly going for simple, easy-to-understand advantages — and a massive battery is the most straightforward argument of them all.
