According to insider MEGAsizeGPU, NVIDIA may have canceled or indefinitely postponed the launch of the GeForce RTX 5050 9GB, since the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB is already out there and retailing in the same sub-$350 price range. There's been no official word from the company — so for now, the cancellation or delay remains strictly rumor-mill territory.

The GeForce RTX 5050 9GB was being positioned as a budget-friendly option for gamers building on a tighter budget. The plan was to launch it at around $300–350, making it one of the most affordable cards in the new generation. Rumors had it that the RTX 5050 9GB would pack a GB206 chip, 2,560 CUDA cores, a 96-bit bus, and 9GB of GDDR7 memory. Unlike other RTX 5050 variants with 2GB GDDR6 modules, this one was slated to use faster 3GB GDDR7 modules.

But does a 9GB version really make sense?

Insider MEGAsizeGPU notes that the card's release has either been scrapped or postponed indefinitely. According to them, with the re-release of the RTX 3060 12GB in the same segment, launching the RTX 5050 9GB simply doesn't make sense right now. In Germany, the cheapest ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 3060 OC V2 is currently going for around €333.64 — that price is being offered by about 30 local retailers — and in the US, the card has been spotted on Newegg's shelves for $339.99. That puts it above the 2021 MSRP, when the GeForce RTX 3060 originally launched at $329.

If the RTX 5050 9GB really does get axed, the sub-$350 budget segment will be left with just the RTX 5050 8GB and the RTX 3060 12GB. For consumers, that means fewer next-gen options to choose from in this price tier.

What do you think — was it a smart move by NVIDIA to ditch the RTX 5050 9GB to avoid competing with its own RTX 3060 12GB? Drop your take in the comments.
