Steam Deck Could Become a Desktop PC Thanks to This New Accessory
Mechanism — already familiar to Valve device owners for its niche add-ons — has announced a new product: the foldable Desk Stand. The new stand is primarily designed for the Steam Deck, but it’ll also work with most other portable consoles and even smartphones. The idea is simple: turn your mobile device into a stationary work or entertainment hub without cluttering your desk with bulky docking stations.
The construction features foldable aluminium brackets and a steel base. Thanks to that foundation, the stand stays firmly in place even when the attached device isn’t exactly lightweight. At the same time, the whole mechanism folds down for travel — the Desk Won't take up much space in your bag. The manufacturer positions the accessory both as a permanent desktop fixture and as a on-the-go workstation.
The main feature that sets the Desk Stand apart from ordinary holders is its Outie and Innie mounting system. These are extra clamps that lock into place anywhere along the upright post. Outie mounts on the outside, Innie on the inside, so you can spread your accessories across both sides of the stand. With them, you can hang an external battery, a USB-C hub, a controller, or — as Mechanism jokingly adds — even a banana. The point is to build a compact workspace tailored to your needs: charge your console on the go, hook up peripherals, or just free up your hands. There’s also a separate magnetic clip to keep one of your cables in check, though it’s hardly a full-blown cable management system.
The Desk Stand goes on sale July 17 at a price of $39. Additional Outie and Innie mounts are also available separately if the standard set isn’t enough. The product comes with a lifetime warranty, and returns are accepted within 30 days as long as the packaging is intact.
Earlier, Mechanism released the Gaming Pillow for comfortable semi-reclined gaming on handhelds, as well as the Basegrip mount that turned the Steam Controller and smartphones into a single unit. The Desk Stand continues that same thread — niche but thoughtful solutions for people who actively use portable gear across different scenarios.
How do you usually use your handheld consoles — strictly on the go, or do you hook them up to a monitor and external accessories? And do you see any value in a stand like this for your own setup? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
