Hardware Unboxed Puts Ryzen 7 5800X3D Up Against Newer X3D Chips in 13 Games

In Hardware Unboxed's 13-game benchmark run, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D held up surprisingly well in Full HD, averaging about the same performance as the Ryzen 5 9600X and finishing roughly 10% ahead of the Ryzen 5 7500F. It also came out about 30% ahead of the Ryzen 5 5600X, underscoring how much gaming life the older AM4 chip still has left when frame rates are the priority.

AMD has also brought the Ryzen 7 5800X3D back as a 10th Anniversary Edition, with the cited report putting its price at $350. That keeps it in an awkward middle ground: revived, still fast, but not a bargain.

By contrast, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is available at Microcenter for $299, while the Ryzen 7 7700X3D is scheduled to launch the next day with an MSRP of $329. Even though the 7800X3D launched in 2024, that pricing makes the AM5 option look especially competitive.

Taken together, the numbers suggest AMD now has several X3D options that compete on value as much as raw performance. For buyers, that leaves a pretty unusual choice between a returning AM4 veteran and a cheaper current-gen AM5 model.

Does the Ryzen 7 5800X3D still look like the better gaming buy to you, or does the $299 Ryzen 7 7800X3D win that argument?
