Google expands AI Mode with Canva, YouTube Music, and Instacart integrations

Google says AI Mode is moving from simply surfacing answers to helping users finish tasks, and the first wave of integrations includes Canva, YouTube Music, and Instacart.

With YouTube Music, AI Mode can build a playlist from a genre, mood, or situation prompt and show it directly in chat. The playlist can then be opened in the YouTube Music app. The Canva integration works differently: AI Mode can suggest a template based on a text description, such as a party flyer or an event flyer. Google also says the system can pull calendar data to better understand the context for a design.

Instacart support lets AI Mode assemble a grocery list and add items to a cart after the service is connected. In Google's example, a barbecue on the calendar helps the assistant understand the occasion and pick purchases to match it.

Google says this is part of a wider shift, with AI Mode increasingly acting not just as a tool that answers questions, but as one that carries users through to a transaction. Canva says it has more than 220 million monthly users, which gives the integration a sizable audience from the start.

That makes AI Mode feel less like a search helper and more like a bridge between queries and completed actions. As Google keeps adding these kinds of integrations, where do you think the line should be between search and shopping?
