NVIDIA Rolls Out First RTX Spark Driver, Bringing Arm-Powered Windows PCs One Step Closer
NVIDIA has just inched closer to a fall launch for its RTX Spark chip, having published a preliminary version of CUDA Toolkit 13.4 alongside the first driver for devices running on this new platform. The big takeaway here is native Windows Arm64 support baked right into the developer toolchain—something that folks eyeing Arm-compatible PCs with serious GPU muscle have been waiting on for a while.
The CUDA Toolkit 13.4 Developer Preview now ships with everything you need to compile CUDA applications natively right inside a Windows Arm64 environment. Up until now, devs had to make do with cross-compiling from x86 machines, but this release brings a fully-functional toolchain directly to the target architecture. Unsurprisingly, the driver itself isn't bundled with the toolkit—starting with version 13.4, NVIDIA has split driver and SDK deliveries, offering a separate Developer Driver (build 616.00) specifically for RTX Spark. This driver is aimed squarely at the Microsoft Surface RTX Spark Dev Box—a fanless mini-PC built for developers that'll be the first piece of hardware you can actually get your hands on with the new chip. The released driver has been compiled and tested specifically for that system.
In its documentation, NVIDIA lays out a recommended game plan: start by checking your app's dependencies and third-party libraries for Arm64 compatibility, pick a porting strategy (pure Arm64 or Arm64EC), build and test on Windows Arm64, then double-check CUDA library paths, and finally validate installation, updates, functionality, and performance.
As for the chip itself, the RTX Spark packs a Grace architecture CPU core and Blackwell graphics onto a single substrate, with 128 GB of unified memory linked via a high-speed internal bus. In essence, it's NVIDIA's bid to bring a purpose-built AI PC system-on-chip to market—one that can go toe-to-toe with solutions that have already carved out their space in the Arm ecosystem. Early public demos at Computex 2026 showed off impressive performance in AI workloads, creative tools, and even gaming, but those were engineering samples, so take any leaked benchmarks with a generous grain of salt.
The timing of this toolkit and driver drop says it all: we're just months away from retail availability, and by the time RTX Spark hits shelves, developers need to have their apps ready to go. It's a logical move—without software that's natively compiled for Arm64, all that hardware firepower risks being bottlenecked by emulation and leaving performance on the table.
