NVIDIA DLSS 5 leaked in NBA 2K27 and was already ported into Control
Modders from the RenoDX community got NVIDIA DLSS 5's leaked runtime running in Control within hours of finding it in the early access build of NBA 2K27. The library was identified as nvngx_dlssnr.dll, and the group managed to enable it in Remedy's game shortly after the discovery.
The file is being described as NVIDIA DLSSNR version 310.8.0.0, where DLSSNR stands for DLSS Neural Rendering, and appears to be the runtime for DLSS 5 Neural Rendering. It is also unusually large for this kind of component: the library weighs about 158 MB, far above typical DLSS 4 Super Resolution files.
The current experiment is still very limited. In Control, the mod applies Neural Rendering to Jesse Faden's character model and other character models, and it offers seven styles to switch between. For now, it only affects character models, and HDR support does not behave correctly.
That early result comes with a heavy performance cost. On a GeForce RTX 5070 Ti at 4K, the mod can cut performance by almost 50%, which makes the build look more like a proof of concept than something ready for everyday use.
speedlemur put it bluntly:
Obviously not finished code, just enabled via RenoDX & Reshade for now.
Even so, the leak offers a first look at how DLSS 5 Neural Rendering may work when NVIDIA ships it officially in autumn 2026.
According to NVIDIA's plan, developers will eventually get tools to apply Neural Rendering selectively to scenes, materials, or objects. For now, though, this leak has shown that modders can already push the technology into a live game long before its official release. Does that make DLSS 5 more exciting, or just more unfinished?
