Modder gets NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation working on GeForce RTX 20 cards

On an RTX 2060 Max-Q, one tester has already gotten NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation to launch in The Witcher 3 next-gen over DirectX 12, even though the feature is officially limited to RTX 40 and RTX 50 cards. The in-game Frame Generation option could be enabled on the GeForce RTX 20-series GPU.

The mod relies on NVIDIA's stock nvngx_dlssg 310.1 runtime, but swaps the original GPU kernels for versions compiled for SM75. It also changes architecture checks and can report a Turing GPU as Ada where needed, which allows the DLSS-G runtime to initialize.

Early results suggest RTX 20 cards are limited to single-frame generation for now. According to a Reddit user with an RTX 2060,

DLSS Frame Generation works fine in 2X mode.

The same user said 3X mode shows some ghosting and 4X does not work well. They also reported slightly lower performance than with FSR Frame Generation. That said, this is still not a universal drop-in solution for RTX 20 GPUs. Other users have reported compatibility problems in some games, so the mod is promising, but far from stable enough for every setup.

There is also a separate OptiScaler release that unlocks native Multi Frame Generation on RTX 20 and RTX 30 GPUs, offering another route for users experimenting with the feature.

Would you try this mod on an RTX 20 card if 2X works but higher modes still cause issues?
