RTX 5090 Founders Edition Is Reportedly Getting Harder to Service Under Warranty
A Reddit user says his RTX 5090 Founders Edition developed black-screen crashes under load, only for NVIDIA to later reject the warranty claim. The owner, posting as Willing-Avocado-4830, said he bought the card directly from the NVIDIA UK store almost one year earlier.
According to the post, the GPU began causing black-screen crashes under full load before the user contacted NVIDIA for warranty service. After he sent the card in, he said more than a month passed before he heard back that the RMA had been rejected.
The user later said NVIDIA told him the serial number on the metal bracket had become unreadable, and that this was the reason for the rejection. He also claimed that he still had the original box with the serial number and proof of purchase.
The thread then drew responses from other users who said they had also seen faded serial numbers on Founders Edition GPUs after only a few months of use. One RTX 5080 Founders Edition owner described a similar warranty rejection.
The story leaves a simple question hanging over NVIDIA's warranty process: can an unreadable serial number on the GPU itself be enough to deny service?
