ChatGPT learns to try on clothes from photos — just like Google, only right in the chat

OpenAI added virtual try-on for clothing and accessories to ChatGPT. It's available anywhere a product card shows up in chat: just tap the try-on button and upload a selfie and a full-body photo, after which ChatGPT generates an image of the item on you. You're not limited to items the chatbot itself suggests — a screenshot of any item you like from the internet works too.

The images are generated by the ChatGPT Images 2.5 model, which OpenAI released in September. According to the company, it renders natural lighting and texture better, follows editing instructions more precisely, and works faster. Items you like can now also be saved to the app's library along with the try-on images, so you can come back to them later.

Google Search has had a similar feature since 2025, and OpenAI has noticeably expanded ChatGPT's shopping capabilities over the past year — chats, for instance, already show product ads. Like any photos uploaded to ChatGPT from a personal account, try-on photos can by default be used to train the models, though this can be turned off in settings.
