OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has announced the development of models GPT-4.5 and GPT-5, along with plans to make the AI as intuitive as possible.

OpenAI aims to fuse its o and GPT models into a unified system encompassing all tools. This system would intelligently determine the necessary analysis – whether short-term or in-depth – and autonomously select the appropriate model. Altman also stated that Model GPT-5 will be free to use. Users on the free tier will have access to the AI in standard mode, while paid subscribers will unlock advanced features.

In the comments section of his post, Altman hinted at a 2025 release window for the new models.
