Donkey Kong Bananza is the first 3D Donkey Kong platformer since 1999's Donkey Kong 64. It was developed by a new team within Nintendo, primarily consisting of developers who previously worked on Super Mario Odyssey. Unsurprisingly, the result is an exceptionally polished and entertaining game, as we discussed in our Donkey Kong Bananza review.

The defining feature of Donkey Kong Bananza — one that would not have been possible on the old hardware — is the complete destructibility of its levels. While searching for gold and special banana-shaped gems, Donkey Kong can smash entire cliffs with his powerful fists, carve tunnels underground, rip huge chunks of rock from the ground, and hurl them at enemies.

Kong explores a varied underground world alongside Pauline, the young singer familiar from the Mario games. Her songs can temporarily transform the gorilla into even more powerful creatures, such as an ostrich capable of flying and bombarding enemies with eggs. These transformations are essential for reaching inaccessible locations and defeating the game's numerous bosses.

Donkey Kong Bananza also features a cooperative mode in which one player controls Kong and the other plays as Pauline. If you have an original Switch at home, you can even stream the game to it and play together on separate screens.

The Splatoon series is best known for its online shooters, but the new Splatoon Raiders is a roguelike focused on single-player gameplay. One of spring 2026's biggest hits, Pokemon Pokopia is a laid-back, cozy game about rebuilding the world alongside Pokemon. Players explore ruined locations within a virtual world, gather resources, reshape the landscape, construct settlements, and create suitable conditions to attract Pokemon. Yes, instead of catching them, the goal is to persuade them to come to the player on their own. Pokopia combines the freedom of Minecraft with the comforting atmosphere of Animal Crossing and the clearer structure of Dragon Quest Builders: story quests provide a sense of progression rather than leaving players in a pure sandbox, gradually unlocking new gameplay possibilities.

It is difficult to describe Kirby Air Riders as an ordinary racing game. This highly experimental release is a collection of arcade modes in which players hurtle through levels at ridiculous speeds. Air Ride offers traditional races around circuit tracks, while Top Ride moves its short and especially chaotic competitions onto compact maps viewed from above, producing a rather unusual experience. The main online attraction is City Trial: participants spend 5 minutes exploring an arena, collecting power-ups, and switching vehicles before using their resulting builds in a random challenge — a race, a brawl, or a gliding competition. Although Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is also available on the original Switch, it is best experienced on the new system, where the fourth Prime can run at up to 120 FPS and supports mouse controls. Both features matter in a first-person shooter.

For the most part, the gameplay resembles the previous Metroid Prime installments. Beyond is a metroidvania with intricate level design and interesting upgrades that can be used to solve its many puzzles. The new additions include psionic abilities, such as slowing down time and manually guiding a projectile after firing it from Samus's arm cannon.

It may be hard to believe, but the next game from legendary designer Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. The surprises do not end there: The Duskbloods is not a traditional Souls game but an experimental online action title inspired by extraction shooters.

The Duskbloods focuses on PvPvE. Players choose characters with different abilities and equipment, then fight across the map until only one remains alive. It hardly sounds like FromSoftware's usual territory, but that is precisely what makes the project so intriguing. The first closed test of The Duskbloods will take place in August, giving us a better idea of what to expect.

Enhanced versions of popular games from the original Nintendo Switch. Switch 2 Edition releases offer higher resolutions, more stable frame rates, and faster loading times, while some have also received new content and additional features.

Switch 2 owners who missed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild now have an opportunity to experience the best version of one of the defining adventures of the past decade. The BOTW sequel benefits even more from the move to Switch 2. On the original hardware, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom suffered from frequent performance drops, especially when players used the game's construction mechanics. Predictably, the Switch 2 version has no such problem.

Incidentally, the paid BOTW and TOTK ports for the new system can be connected to Nintendo's official smartphone app, provided it is available in your region. Doing so adds a GPS-style navigation feature that makes it easier to locate various secrets on the map. It is an amusing mechanic, although hardly an essential one.

With Super Mario Odyssey, there is no need to pay for an upgrade to enjoy better image quality — simply download the free patch. The update does not introduce any radical changes, but it does increase the resolution: when played on a TV, the Switch 2 version renders at 1440p before being upscaled to 4K. That improvement alone is enough to make the game feel new again, and returning to the original Switch's blurry 900p presentation is hardly appealing.

Super Mario Odyssey still has no equal among 3D platformers. The PS5's Astro Bot came remarkably close to matching its quality but ultimately failed to surpass Nintendo's masterpiece. The main attraction in this package is Bowser's Fury, a fairly short but exceptionally entertaining adventure. More importantly, its design served as Nintendo's early experiment in determining whether an open-world Mario game was genuinely viable. Bowser's Fury proves that it is, so consider the project an appetizer before a true next-generation Super Mario.

Another masterpiece from the original Switch that received a free update for the new console. Splatoon 3 is a colorful online shooter for all ages with an unusual premise: the objective is not to rack up kills but to cover arenas in ink. By painting the environment, players compete for control of the territory. The colored sections provide a clear visual representation of each team's area of influence, help players coordinate their actions, and allow them to move rapidly across the map by swimming through ink. In Splatoon 3, victory goes to the team that manages to cover the largest portion of the arena.

When connected to a TV, the Switch 2 version of Splatoon 3 delivers a 4K image at 60 FPS, while handheld mode runs at 1080p. The port also features higher-quality shadows. Unfortunately, draw distance and texture quality remain unchanged from the original release.

In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Kirby explores an abandoned world and rescues the Waddle Dees — small, peaceful creatures hidden throughout the levels. Along the way, the hero swallows enemies, copies their abilities, and transforms into cars, staircases, and other large objects to overcome obstacles.

The Switch 2 version improves the graphics and frame rate, but its main addition is the new Star-Crossed World storyline. After a meteorite crashes into the planet, reworked versions of familiar levels open up with new areas, collectibles, stronger enemies, and additional Kirby transformations.

On a deserted island, players gather resources, furnish their homes, reshape the landscape, socialize with animal neighbors, and gradually turn an empty patch of land into a cozy settlement. Millions of fans value Animal Crossing: New Horizons for its absorbing, leisurely gameplay, while the Switch 2 version makes the experience more comfortable with 4K support, more stable performance, and mouse controls, which are particularly convenient for arranging furniture and creating patterns. It is only a shame that the frame rate remains capped at 30 FPS.

However, the new content — including the hotel, additional islands for freeform construction, and other major features — belongs to the free 3.0 update rather than the Switch 2 Edition. In other words, the upgrade does not change the familiar formula but offers the most convenient and technically accomplished version of the game.

In Super Mario Bros. Wonder, one of the best modern 2D platformers, Mario and his friends travel through the Flower Kingdom. Most levels follow a familiar structure: players need to reach the finish line by jumping over obstacles and dealing with enemies. However, the game also features Wonder Flowers that completely transform the gameplay. Pipes come alive and begin writhing and crawling, entire crowds of enemies appear on the screen, and the heroes gain unusual abilities or change form.

The enhanced Switch 2 version of Super Mario Bros. Wonder supports modern resolutions and adds the Meetup in Bellabel Park location with 17 cooperative and competitive minigames, some of which can be played online. More challenging trials and new bosses are available for experienced players. The add-on does not alter the main campaign, but it expands the multiplayer and provides more activities for those who have already explored everything in the original.

After Earth is destroyed, the remnants of humanity crash on an unexplored planet and establish the city of New Los Angeles. After joining the BLADE organization, the player explores a vast open world, installs data probes, completes missions, and battles the local wildlife as part of a squad. Eventually, Skells become available — enormous combat robots capable of traveling across the ground, flying, and fighting especially large enemies.

The Switch 2 version of Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition does not add any new content, but it increases the resolution and, most importantly, delivers a stable 60 FPS in both docked and handheld modes. The textures and effects remain almost unchanged, while distant objects can occasionally look blurry on the built-in display, but the increased smoothness noticeably improves the experience.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A takes place in Lumiose City, where people are attempting to adapt the city so humans and Pokemon can live together. During the day, the hero explores districts populated by wild creatures, catches new partners, and completes quests. At night, the character competes in a tournament, defeats other trainers, and gradually climbs from Rank Z to Rank A.

The Switch 2 port performs far better than the original version on the previous console. Its smoother performance becomes immediately noticeable during fast-paced battles and while exploring the city's busy streets.

Switch 2 supports most of the previous console's library. This section features the best Nintendo Switch games that remain worth playing even without a dedicated update or Switch 2 Edition.

A remake of the legendary 3D metroidvania. Metroid Prime Remastered completely overhauls the classic game's graphics and controls while leaving its gameplay untouched. There is nothing wrong with that: Metroid Prime has aged remarkably well and continues to impress with its first-rate level design.

One of the best modern metroidvanias, capable of holding its own even against genre hits such as the Hollow Knight series. Metroid Dread boasts fast pacing, excellent level design, a distinctive science-fiction atmosphere, and spectacular cutscenes reminiscent of the classic God of War games, all seamlessly woven into the gameplay. We eagerly await either a sequel or, at the very least, a Switch 2 patch.

By March 31, 2026, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had sold more than 70 million copies, making it the best-selling Nintendo Switch game. The secret of its success lies in a rare combination of accessibility and depth. A newcomer can learn the controls in a single race, while auto-acceleration and steering assistance allow even children to play. Experienced players, meanwhile, use drifting, cut corners, and calculate the best moments to deploy special items. Random power-ups give those falling behind a chance to return to the race without making skill irrelevant. A huge selection of tracks, familiar Nintendo characters, local multiplayer, and short races have made Mario Kart 8 Deluxe an essential purchase for any Switch owner.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, heroes from Nintendo and other gaming franchises such as Metal Gear Solid fight across multi-level arenas, leap between platforms, and attempt to knock their opponents beyond the stage boundaries. Unlike most other top fighting games, characters do not have conventional health bars. Instead, every hit increases their damage percentage, causing them to be launched farther with each subsequent blow. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate draws players in with an extremely simple premise, while its tactical depth becomes apparent after only a few matches.

Switch 2 receives full versions of major games that are also available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. This section features the best multiplatform releases and ports that look impressive on the new console and are particularly convenient to play in handheld mode.

While Mario Kart World is an excellent showcase for the potential of Nintendo's own games, Cyberpunk 2077 provides the clearest indication of what to expect from multiplatform ports. What is astonishing is not merely that CD Projekt RED's hit runs on a system consuming only 10 watts, but that it looks so good in the process. Seriously, if your first Cyberpunk 2077 playthrough happens to be on Switch 2, it would be difficult to call the experience significantly compromised. Yes, the resolution is higher on a powerful PC or PS5, and those versions support ray tracing, but the overall graphics are surprisingly comparable.

Playing Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2 provides access to exclusive features unavailable on other consoles. One Joy-Con can be used as a mouse, while gesture controls let players perform different actions by moving the controllers through the air, including quickly healing, reloading weapons, and more.

The fact that Hogwarts Legacy is playable on the original Switch at all is something of a miracle. Objectively, however, it is the worst available version: the game looks unattractive, suffers from constant loading interruptions between areas, and generally does not resemble a project released in 2023.

The new Switch 2 port of Hogwarts Legacy is a colossal improvement. Technically, it falls slightly short of the level of detail found on Xbox Series X and PS5, but it generally looks better than the PS4 version, let alone the original Switch release. If you have not played Hogwarts Legacy yet, the Switch 2 edition is a perfectly respectable option.

One of the best ways to appreciate the performance leap from the original Switch to Switch 2 is to play No Man's Sky. Hello Games recently released a free update for the new system, and the graphical difference is, without exaggeration, night and day. The improvements to resolution and texture quality are so substantial that the two versions almost look like entirely different games rather than variations of the same project.

The Nintendo Switch 2 port of Street Fighter 6 is another impressive technological achievement. This version looks remarkably close to the PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC releases. In some respects, the Switch 2 game even looks more attractive than it does on the more powerful Xbox Series S, thanks to the magic known as DLSS.

Since FromSoftware has already come up, Switch 2 owners should keep an eye on the port of Elden Ring. There is little point in explaining the game itself — one of the most successful action RPGs of the past five years hardly needs an introduction. The quality of the Switch 2 version remains the only real question, but judging by technical analyses of the trailers, Elden Ring on Nintendo's new console is shaping up to be a decent way to experience the game.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Resident Evil Requiem on Switch 2 is how closely it resembles the versions for more powerful consoles. Thanks to DLSS, the game retains detailed visuals and moody lighting, although the image looks somewhat blurrier and the frame rate occasionally falls short of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions.

Resident Evil Requiem is one of the biggest games of 2026, thoughtfully alternating between tense episodes starring FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, who must conserve ammunition and hide from monsters, and more action-packed missions featuring Leon Kennedy. Being able to play such a modern horror game in handheld mode makes the port especially impressive. We discussed the game itself in greater detail in our Resident Evil Requiem review.

The first full-fledged Fallout game on a Nintendo console received a port that may not be perfect but is generally well made. Switch 2 lets players choose between 30, 40, and 60 FPS modes. The last option reduces environmental detail and texture quality, making 40 FPS the best choice for handheld play. Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition includes all six expansions and more than 150 Creation Club mods. The lack of gyroscopic aiming and mouse controls is disappointing, but the VATS system slows down time during combat and partially compensates for the aiming limitations.

If you are deciding between a Switch 2 and Steam Deck, games such as the intriguing science-fiction horror title Cronos: The New Dawn may help you reach a conclusion. Compared with the Steam Deck version, the Switch 2 port of Cronos: The New Dawn holds up well: in handheld mode, it offers a sharper 1080p image and maintains 30 FPS more consistently. When connected to a TV, the resolution increases to 1440p, although the level of detail remains almost unchanged.

Despite its first-person perspective, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is not a conventional shooter but an action-adventure focused on exploration, puzzles, and sneaking into enemy camps. On Switch 2, the game runs at 720p in handheld mode and 1080p when connected to a TV, while DLSS helps preserve a sharp image and impressive environmental detail. The port maintains a stable 30 FPS, which is perfectly adequate for its measured gameplay, although texture streaming, simplified shadows, and reduced vegetation are noticeable in places.

Another major advantage is that the entire game is included on the cartridge and requires no additional download. That is excellent news for collectors of physical editions.

Its two protagonists turn Assassin's Creed Shadows into a succession of radically different situations and scenarios. Shinobi Naoe hides in the shadows and silently eliminates targets, while samurai Yasuke breaks through gates and deals with entire groups of enemies in open combat. The enormous open world of feudal Japan, complete with changing seasons, remains impressive on Nintendo Switch 2, although the developers simplified textures, vegetation, and certain character models to maintain stability. DLSS and VRR help keep the frame rate consistent, but drops can occur in larger cities. Recent patches have improved handheld performance and, rather surprisingly, even added mouse and keyboard support.

In summer 2026, Bethesda announced a Switch 2 port of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, an updated version of the cult RPG with completely overhauled graphics, refined controls, and motion-control support. In Oblivion, players create their own hero, explore the vast province of Cyrodiil, join guilds, complete quests, and close the Oblivion Gates while attempting to stop Mehrunes Dagon and his demons from invading. Oblivion Remastered includes the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine expansions, while the physical Deluxe Edition contains the complete game on a cartridge instead of a Game-Key Card.

Only one copy is required to play through the cooperative masterpiece Split Fiction. Friend's Pass allows players to invite a partner for free, even on another platform, while Switch 2 also supports local GameShare. In the story, writers Mio and Zoe become trapped inside their own fantastical stories, where they constantly acquire new abilities and solve puzzles designed for two players. The port maintains a stable 30 FPS even during effects-heavy scenes, although its level of detail and shadow quality are noticeably inferior to the versions for more powerful systems.

The defining feature of Pragmata is its unusual combat system: the android Diana hacks through the robots' defenses, while protagonist Hugh shoots their exposed weak points. The player performs both actions in the middle of combat. We covered the game in greater detail in our Pragmata review. On Switch 2, the game is best played in TV mode, as the image becomes noticeably blurry in handheld mode. The frame rate also fluctuates between 30 and 60 FPS, with more severe drops during large-scale battles.

Star Wars Outlaws found plenty of fans on Switch 2 because it arrived before AAA releases began flooding the platform. Set between Episode 4 and Episode 5 of Star Wars, the story follows thief Kay Vess as she assembles a crew for a major heist, travels between planets, and completes assignments for criminal syndicates, gradually changing their attitudes toward her. The biggest technical surprise is support for ray-tracing technology, something few expected to see in such a large-scale game on a handheld console. Despite the softer visuals and noticeable object pop-in, the port generally maintains 30 FPS and delivers the complete adventure without major compromises.

Red Dead Redemption needs no introduction. The classic Western runs exceptionally well on Nintendo Switch 2 and supports DLSS, HDR, and mouse controls using a Joy-Con 2. The Undead Nightmare expansion is also included, while owners of the original Switch version can upgrade for free.

An excellent racing game that Mario Kart fans in particular should not miss, since the basic formula is similar despite several notable differences. In Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, portals open after the first lap and transport the racers to another location, with the leading player choosing the route. The Sonic characters' vehicles transform into boats and aircraft during races, while gadgets and interchangeable parts allow players to customize their machines to suit their preferred style. The Switch 2 version runs at 60 FPS and delivers a resolution of 1440p on a TV or 1080p in handheld mode. The frame rate only drops to 30 FPS when three or four people play together on the same screen.

Independent games are particularly well suited to the portable nature of Switch 2. This section features the best indie games on the new console, ranging from narrative adventures and platformers to roguelikes and expansive metroidvanias.

Hades' daughter Melinoe embarks on one expedition after another to defeat Chronos, the Titan of Time, rescue her family, and stop the war against Olympus. Every death sends her back to the base, where she speaks with allies, performs witchcraft rituals, and upgrades her weapons. Combat has become more tactical with the addition of a mana system, spells, and a greater emphasis on intelligent positioning on the battlefield. The sequel does not replace the successful formula but expands it considerably, as we discussed in our Hades 2 review.

The updated Switch 2 version of Hollow Knight offers a higher resolution, increased frame rate, and additional visual effects, making exploration, platforming, and combat feel smoother. The edition also includes every free expansion, complete with new quests, enemies, and challenges. It is an excellent way to experience a masterpiece of the metroidvania genre. Hollow Knight: Silksong takes place in the kingdom of Pharloom, where protagonist Hornet ascends through the strange world toward the mysterious Citadel and gradually learns more about her own purpose. She explores interconnected locations, unlocks new movement abilities, completes quests for the local inhabitants, and battles dangerous insects. The main route is clearer than in the first Hollow Knight, but there are still plenty of hidden tunnels and optional areas. As we noted in our Hollow Knight: Silksong review, the game is objectively difficult but generally fair, although certain sections can still prove extremely frustrating.

During the day, the protagonist of Dave the Diver descends to the ocean floor, catches fish, gathers treasure, and fights marine predators. In the evening, he helps manage a sushi restaurant by planning the menu, serving customers, and improving the staff. New locations, equipment, recipes, and additional ways to develop the business gradually become available.

The game received a free Nintendo Switch 2 patch, although it is a fairly standard one. There is no new content, but the updated Dave the Diver offers — you guessed it — a higher resolution and a more stable frame rate.

After losing his superhero suit, the protagonist of Dispatch takes a job as a dispatcher and leads a team of former villains, assigning the most suitable characters to handle various emergencies. Dispatch is an interactive superhero series in which the player's decisions affect relationships within the group and the ending of the story. The Switch 2 port is well suited to handheld play, although this version was criticized at launch for aggressively censoring several scenes. A June update restored some of the cut content in the European and American versions, but unfortunately not all of it. Nevertheless, this remains a game that should not be missed.

The Duskbloods is another game worth following: this unusual PvPvE action title from FromSoftware is also being developed exclusively for Nintendo's new console. And, of course, many players are eagerly awaiting the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Two people can play Mario Kart World, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Donkey Kong Bananza, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, and Super Mario Party Jamboree on the same console. Split Fiction is designed entirely around two-player co-op, and only one copy is required thanks to Friend's Pass and GameShare. Splatoon Raiders is another good option for online co-op, with support for teams of up to four players.

Mario Kart World and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe are the best introductions to the console: the controls are easy to learn, while optional assists prevent players from constantly driving off the track. Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Pokemon Pokopia, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, and Super Mario Party Jamboree are also worth considering.

Among the exclusives, the console's potential is best demonstrated by Star Fox, the colorful Mario Kart World, and Donkey Kong Bananza with its destructible environments. The most impressive multiplatform releases include Cyberpunk 2077, Resident Evil Requiem, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Assassin's Creed Shadows. Star Wars Outlaws also deserves a special mention: the port supports ray-tracing technology, something few expected from Nintendo's portable system.

New releases arrive constantly, while the console already has an impressive backlog thanks to backward compatibility with the original Switch. Super Mario Party Jamboree — an extensive collection of party minigames, expanded on Switch 2 with Jamboree TV, mouse controls, and microphone and camera support.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book — a cozy adventure in which Yoshi travels through the pages of a talking encyclopedia, studies unusual creatures, and conducts experiments to restore lost knowledge.

Mario Tennis Fever — an arcade tennis game featuring 38 characters from the Mario universe and special rackets that can freeze the court, shrink opponents, and alter the course of a match in other unusual ways.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (remake) — one of the most anticipated releases of 2026 and a complete remake of the legendary Nintendo 64 adventure that had a profound influence on the development of 3D games.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment — a fast-paced action game about cutting through entire armies of enemies that provides a detailed account of the Imprisoning War, previously shown only briefly in Tears of the Kingdom.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade — the first part of the modern FF7 trilogy, telling the story of the struggle against a powerful corporation.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth — an expansive action RPG and sequel to Final Fantasy VII Remake in which mercenary Cloud and his allies leave the metropolis of Midgar and embark on a journey across a vast world while pursuing the dangerous Sephiroth. The quality of the Switch 2 port is particularly impressive, as many believed it would be impossible due to the game's demanding system requirements.
