Best Cyberpunk Games in 2026: Top Picks for PC and Console
Cyberpunk shows a future where technological progress has not made humanity freer or happier. Giant corporations control cities and governments, the rich improve their bodies with implants, and ordinary people try to survive amid crime, social inequality, and total surveillance. High technology exists side by side with poverty, while neon-lit streets hide countless dangers.
In games, cyberpunk can take many different forms. Some projects let you explore huge megacities, develop your character, and make difficult decisions. Others turn implants, system hacking, and futuristic weapons into the foundation of fast-paced combat. There are also intimate detective stories, visual novels, platformers, and games where the most important thing is the atmosphere of loneliness inside an overcrowded city.
This list brings together 26 of the best cyberpunk games for PC and consoles: from works that shaped the genre to modern RPGs, high-speed action games, unusual indie projects, and the most anticipated upcoming releases.
Genre Icons (Cult-Classics Games)
These projects shaped the idea of cyberpunk in video games. They popularized dark megacities, the fight against corporations, body modification, artificial intelligence, and the freedom to complete missions in different ways.
Deus Ex
A cult-classic immersive sim and one of the most important games usually associated with cyberpunk, even though it is not pure cyberpunk in the strictest sense. Yes, it has nanotechnology, implants, hackers, a bleak future, and powerful organizations, but in spirit the game is closer to spy conspiracy fiction: with the Illuminati, secret societies, government experiments, Area 51, global conspiracies, and the constant feeling that behind every event there is yet another hidden layer of control. That is why Deus Ex is easily perceived not only as a predecessor to modern cyberpunk RPGs, but also as a story in the spirit of The X-Files, where the player decides whom to trust, whom to betray, and which path to take toward the truth.
Missions in Deus Ex can be completed with weapons, hacking, dialogue, or stealth, so fans of this approach should also check out our list of the best stealth games. By the way Deus Ex Remastered is also currently in development.
System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster
The original System Shock 2 is a landmark RPG with shooter and horror elements, set aboard the Von Braun starship. The player explores infected decks, fights the mutated crew, hacks systems, develops combat, technical, or psionic skills, and gradually learns what happened on board. This is not classic cyberpunk, but its themes of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and the loss of human control make the game important for the genre. In 2025, Nightdive released System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remastered with improved graphics, support for modern platforms, and a co-op campaign.
Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition
A re-release of the 1997 adventure game inspired by Ridley Scott’s film, telling a separate detective story in the same world. In Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition, the player controls replicant hunter Ray McCoy, investigates crime scenes, questions witnesses, analyzes evidence, and gradually reaches several possible endings. The game captures the noir side of cyberpunk with remarkable accuracy. If you like dark, melancholic aesthetics, do not miss our selection of the best noir games.
Syndicate
The classic tactical game Syndicate is about corporations waging war against each other for control over cities. The player commands a squad of cybernetically enhanced agents, completes missions involving assassinations, sabotage, and territorial takeover, and upgrades weapons and implants between assignments.
Best Cyberpunk RPGs
In cyberpunk RPGs, technology becomes part of character progression. Players install implants, master hacking, choose allies, influence the fate of cities, and decide how far they are willing to go for power, money, or freedom.
Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition
A textbook example of the cyberpunk genre — especially after the Phantom Liberty expansion — with almost all the key elements in place: a neon-lit megacity, implants, hackers, gangs, street mercenaries, extreme social inequality, and corporations that have effectively replaced the state. At the center of the story is not a chosen hero saving humanity, but V — someone from the bottom trying to make it in Night City, only to quickly get pulled into a criminal story involving a stolen biochip and the digital ghost of terrorist Johnny Silverhand. In a sense, the real protagonist of Cyberpunk 2077 is not even V, but Night City itself: a huge, bright, and merciless city that grinds down almost everyone who tries to climb to the top. Everyone here dreams of becoming a legend, but local fame rarely looks like a happy ending. More often, it is a brief flash of a name before yet another story ends in death, betrayal, or a person’s complete disappearance inside the system.
Cyberpunk 2077 is a one-of-a-kind RPG in the spirit of Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines, where dialogue, factions, implants, character builds, and the feeling of life at the bottom of a big city all matter. At the same time, it is also something like a futuristic version of GTA — with a huge metropolis, cars, shootouts, police chases, street gigs, and random clashes.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a prequel to the legendary series, set in 2027, when mechanical implants are already changing society but, along with new possibilities, bring dependence, inequality, and fear of the future. After a mysterious attack, protagonist Adam Jensen becomes an augmented human and investigates a conspiracy involving corporations and terrorists.
The player can complete missions in many different ways, but the main thing in Human Revolution is not only gameplay variety, but also its story, which touches on deep themes of transhumanism. The game shows the price of an enhanced body: implants give power and freedom, but at the same time make a person dependent on money, medication, and those who control the technology.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided continues the story of Adam Jensen. This time, the setting is Prague, where augmented people have become outcasts after the events of Human Revolution. The game once again focuses on variable mission design, but the story here is less ambitious than in the previous entries. As an immersive sim, however, it is one of the strongest parts of the series.
Shadowrun Returns: Dragonfall
An unusual RPG that mixes cyberpunk with fantasy: in this world, corporations, hackers, street mercenaries, magic, orks, elves, and dragons all exist side by side. The player leads a team of runners in Berlin, takes on dangerous jobs, talks to allies, and gradually gets pulled into a conflict between gangs, corporations, and hidden forces behind the criminal war. Combat in Shadowrun Returns: Dragonfall is turn-based, with cover and action points — in the best traditions of CRPGs. Character progression affects not only battles, but dialogue as well.
The best thing about Dragonfall is its writing: morally ambiguous choices, a well-written crew, and the feeling of a living city make it one of the most interesting RPGs for players who care about narrative, choice, and tactical battles. More projects focused on role-playing, character progression, and strong stories can be found in our list of the best RPGs.
Shadowrun: Hong Kong
Shadowrun: Hong Kong develops Dragonfall’s formula but moves the action to a dark futuristic Hong Kong, where the hero is forced to work for the triads in order to survive among corporations, the police, and supernatural threats. The game preserves many of Dragonfall’s mechanics while also adding more progression options, new abilities, and interesting equipment. The companions and setting in Hong Kong are even more interesting, but in terms of pacing and mission design, the game falls somewhat short of Dragonfall: the middle section sags, and the missions do not always fully develop their best ideas.
The Ascent
An isometric action RPG set on the planet Veles after the sudden collapse of the corporation that controlled everything. Freed from debt slavery, the protagonist finds himself in the middle of a war between gangs and companies trying to carve up power. In terms of gameplay, The Ascent resembles the Diablo series, but with firearms: you complete quests, collect gear, upgrade guns and implants, use cover, dodge, and switch between different aiming modes.
The project stands out most for its impressive visuals and detailed multi-level city: the streets are filled with crowds, neon signs, traffic, and countless small details, while the vast panoramas emphasize the scale of the metropolis. The campaign can be played solo or in co-op — we also have a list of the best co-op games — although navigation, the fixed camera, and technical issues sometimes get in the way of enjoying the combat.
Citizen Sleeper
A story-driven RPG about a fugitive in an artificial body who ends up on a half-ruined space station and tries to start a new life there. At the beginning of each day, Citizen Sleeper gives you several dice with different values, and you must assign them to available actions. High values are better spent on important tasks where failure is especially painful, while low values work better for less risky jobs or actions where a bad result will not ruin the whole plan.
Cyberpunk Action Games and Shooters
In these games, cyberpunk ideas are expressed through fast shootouts, parkour, hacking, and the use of combat implants. The story and worldbuilding still matter, but the main focus is on speed, reactions, and spectacular battles.
Ghostrunner
A brisk first-person action game set in Dharma Tower — humanity’s last refuge after a global catastrophe. Cyberninja Jack runs along walls, uses a grappling hook to reach platforms, slows down time, and cuts enemies down with a katana. In Ghostrunner, the hero, like most enemies, dies from a single hit, so every fight becomes a kind of speed-and-reaction puzzle.
Ghostrunner 2
The sequel continues Jack’s story, but this time beyond the tower, where he faces a group of dangerous cybernetic beings. Ghostrunner 2 keeps elements like parkour, katana combat, and instant deaths, but offers more open levels, new abilities, an improved blocking system, and rides on a futuristic motorcycle. Thanks to its greater variety of situations, the second game feels larger in scope, though it still demands precise movement and quick reactions.
RUINER
An isometric action game about a fighter in a high-tech mask, used by different forces as a weapon in the struggle for control over the city. In combat, you need to keep moving, dash, deploy energy shields, switch weapons, and combine abilities. As the game progresses, the hero unlocks new skills, from force fields to special katana attacks, while fights gradually turn into a rapid sequence of dodges and counterattacks. RUINER will especially appeal to players who appreciate a high level of difficulty; more similar challenges can be found in our list of the hardest games.
Turbo Overkill
A breakneck retro first-person shooter about cyborg Johnny Turbo, who tears through a neon city, destroying mercenaries, street gangs, and an artificial intelligence that has gone out of control. Turbo Overkill is built around constant movement: double jumps, air dashes, magnetic walls, open arenas, and the signature chainsaw leg let you literally crash into crowds of enemies at full speed. This is a cyberpunk action movie in the style of old-school FPS games, where the story is secondary and the main pleasure comes from aggressive gameplay. More dynamic games like this can be found in our list of the best shooters.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
A cyberpunk action game about cyborg Raiden, who fights private military corporations, combat robots, and other cybernetically enhanced killers. Instead of the stealth typical of the main Metal Gear series, the game focuses on aggressive katana battles: the hero parries attacks, slices enemies and machines apart, tears out energy cores, and barely stops between fights.
The cyberpunk side of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is revealed through a near-future setting where war has become a business, private military companies replace armies, and people increasingly turn themselves into cyborgs to survive or make money. Raiden faces not ordinary soldiers, but war machines, mercenaries with artificial bodies, and corporations that use child soldiers as raw material for new wars. So behind the outwardly insane action lies a surprisingly serious story about a world where technology does not liberate people, but turns them into more convenient weapons.
Indie and Atmospheric Projects
Cyberpunk does not have to be a massive open-world action game. Independent developers use the genre for intimate detective stories, visual novels, platformers, and unusual stories about people, machines, and everyday life in a dystopian future.
Stray
An adventure game about an orange cat who ends up in an isolated post-apocalyptic city inhabited by robots. Together with a small translator drone, the player explores streets and rooftops, searches for a way out, solves simple puzzles, hides from dangers, and gradually learns what happened to the place’s former inhabitants. In terms of gameplay, Stray combines elements of a 3D platformer and a classic adventure game, but the main draw is not the gameplay itself, but the unusual concept: a typical cyberpunk world is shown not through the eyes of a mercenary or detective, but from the perspective of an ordinary animal.
VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action
A visual novel about a bartender working in a bar on the outskirts of Glitch City — a city ruled by corporations, brutal police, and authoritarian power. In VA-11 HALL-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action, the player mixes drinks for visitors, and the chosen cocktail affects their mood, openness, and further conversation. Through the stories of ordinary people, androids, mercenaries, and journalists, the structure of the city and the heroine’s personal drama gradually come into focus.
Katana Zero
A gripping 2D action game about a nameless samurai assassin who can slow down time and foresee the possible outcome of a fight. Each level consists of several rooms with enemies, where a single hit is enough to kill both the hero and almost any opponent. Because of that, the player has to quickly find the right sequence of actions: dodge at the right moment, deflect bullets with the katana, and immediately restart after failure. The game constantly adds new situations, while expressive dialogue and neo-noir style carry the short campaign. The most important thing in Katana Zero is its almost flawless pacing.
Observer: System Redux
Observer: System Redux is a cyberpunk detective game with elements of psychological horror, set in Poland in 2084 after a digital plague and the rise of the Chiron megacorporation. The player takes on the role of police detective Dan Lazarski, who can analyze biological and electronic traces, as well as connect to the minds of the dead and explore distorted memories. Most of the playthrough is built around investigating a grim apartment block, searching for clues, and talking to its residents. The surreal episodes inside other people’s minds are especially memorable, while the rare stealth sections with instant failure noticeably break the overall rhythm. Fans of dark and tense stories should also check out our list of the best psychological horror games.
Disco Elysium
Yes, Disco Elysium cannot be called cyberpunk in the strict sense: there is no futurism, no implants, and no all-powerful tech corporations. However, the game should appeal to fans of the noir vibe: it has a grim city, political decay, detective investigations, and a society living with the consequences of past catastrophes. Instead of fights with cyborgs, there are dialogues, skill checks, and internal arguments inside the protagonist’s head. We collected more similar titles in our selection of the best detective games.
Replaced
An atmospheric 2D action game in a pixel-art style, set in an alternate 1980s after a nuclear catastrophe. The artificial intelligence R.E.A.C.H. becomes trapped in a human body and tries to survive in a world where a powerful corporation has turned organ donation into a system for controlling society.
Replaced combines platforming, location exploration, and combat reminiscent of the Batman: Arkham series’ fighting system translated into a two-dimensional space. The cinematic presentation, detailed visuals, and grim dystopian atmosphere are especially strong, although the impression is somewhat spoiled by monotonous corridors, drawn-out peaceful sections, and repetitive enemies, as we noted in our review of Replaced.
Cloudpunk
Cloudpunk tells the story of courier Rania’s first night on the job in the multi-level metropolis of Nivalis. The player flies a car between neon skyscrapers, delivers packages, and meets people and androids, gradually learning how the city works and how sharply its wealthy districts differ from its slums. There is almost no action here: the core of the game is slow-paced travel, conversations with characters, item collection, and vehicle upgrades. Cloudpunk’s key feature is the ability to freely move through a huge vertical city and observe a cyberpunk world not through the eyes of a mercenary or soldier, but from the perspective of an ordinary worker.
Upcoming Cyberpunk Games
Cyberpunk remains a sought-after direction, although large games in this genre often take many years to produce. The main list closes with two of the most notable projects that are still in development. Their final quality remains to be judged, but they are already attracting attention thanks to their settings, scale, and the names of their developers.
Nivalis Nights
Nivalis Nights is a life sim from the creators of Cloudpunk, once again set in the cyberpunk city of Nivalis. After a release date delay and the resolution of legal issues, Ion Lands renamed the project — it was previously simply called Nivalis — and scheduled its release for September 29, 2026. This is a game about everyday life in a futuristic metropolis: fishing, conversations with characters, room customization, and free exploration of gloomy streets are all part of the experience.
No Law
An upcoming cyberpunk shooter from Neon Giant, the studio behind The Ascent, set in the criminal city of Port Desire. In No Law, the player takes on the role of former soldier Grey Harker, who gets pulled into a life of crime.
No Law clearly inherits from The Ascent: once again, there is a grimy cyberpunk city, criminals, neon, and shootouts in the streets. In terms of gameplay, however, this is already a different project: instead of isometric action, the developers are making a first-person shooter. The player chooses how to approach missions: go in head-on with heavy weapons, act stealthily, hack systems, bypass enemies, and use the environment.
Cyberpunk 2
Cyberpunk 2, also known as Project Orion, is still in the early stages of development, so the game should not be expected in the next few years. The sequel is being handled by CD Projekt RED’s North American team under the leadership of Gabriel Amatangelo, who was responsible for Phantom Liberty, while one of the main rumors remains the appearance of a second major city besides Night City — possibly the dark Chicago from the universe’s lore. There are no official gameplay details yet, but based on CDPR’s job listings and statements, it can be assumed that the game will retain the first-person perspective, make the world feel more alive, and almost certainly run on Unreal Engine 5. We collected more details in a separate article about Cyberpunk 2 first known details.
FAQ
What is cyberpunk?
Cyberpunk is a branch of science fiction about a future where high technology exists alongside poverty, crime, and social inequality. These stories usually feature megacorporations, implants, hackers, artificial intelligence, total surveillance, and heroes who live not at the top of society, but somewhere near the bottom. That is why cyberpunk is not just neon and futuristic cities, but a genre about how technology can strengthen power and control.
What are the best cyberpunk games on PC?
If you are choosing the main cyberpunk games on PC, Cyberpunk 2077, Deus Ex, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Shadowrun: Dragonfall, System Shock 2, The Ascent, Citizen Sleeper, Observer: System Redux, and VA-11 Hall-A are the first ones worth considering. These are very different projects: some focus on RPG elements, implants, and character progression, while others lean into detective stories, horror, tactical battles, or text-driven narratives, but all of them explore the genre’s key themes well.
Which cyberpunk game is best to start with?
The most obvious entry point into the genre is Cyberpunk 2077: a large, spectacular, and accessible open-city RPG with shootouts, cars, implants, and a strong sense of life in a dystopian metropolis. If you want a classic, it is better to start with Deus Ex, and if text and atmosphere matter more than complex action, then Citizen Sleeper, Cloudpunk, or VA-11 Hall-A are better choices.
Are there any free cyberpunk games?
There are almost no full-fledged free cyberpunk games on the level of Cyberpunk 2077, Deus Ex, or Shadowrun: most of the strongest projects in the genre remain paid releases. Some games occasionally get demos, free prologues, or trial versions, but if you are looking specifically for complete cyberpunk projects, it is better to watch for discounts on Steam, GOG, PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, and Nintendo eShop.
What cyberpunk games are available on Nintendo Switch?
Several notable cyberpunk games and genre-adjacent projects are available on Nintendo Switch: Citizen Sleeper, VA-11 Hall-A, Katana ZERO, Cloudpunk, Signalis, Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition, and Ghostrunner. Cyberpunk 2077 also made it to Nintendo, but only in the Switch 2 version, so owners of the original Switch should carefully check the platform before buying.
Which cyberpunk games are best for RPG fans?
RPG fans should first look at Cyberpunk 2077, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Shadowrun: Dragonfall, Shadowrun: Hong Kong, and Citizen Sleeper. In these games, what matters is not only combat, but also character progression, dialogue choices, relationships with factions, the consequences of decisions, and the feeling that the hero is trying to survive inside a large, unjust system.
Which cyberpunk games are more about story and atmosphere than action?
If you do not need constant shootouts, it is better to choose Citizen Sleeper, VA-11 Hall-A, Cloudpunk, Observer: System Redux, Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition, or Disco Elysium. In these games, cyberpunk is explored through dialogue, investigations, everyday life, work with memories, urban stories, and the feeling of loneliness inside a huge world where a person can easily be sacrificed for the sake of the system.

What Else to Play
Cyberpunk often overlaps with science fiction, retrofuturism, tech-noir, and dystopia, so the boundaries of the genre remain conditional. Several more worthy projects did not make it into the main list, even though they use similar themes, visual ideas, or gameplay mechanics.
Remember Me is a futuristic action game from Capcom about memory hunter Nilin, who fights in the dystopian Paris of 2084, alters other people’s memories, and tries to reclaim her own identity.
Syndicate is a 2012 shooter that reimagines the classic series as a brutal cyberpunk action game about corporate agents with chips in their heads, enemy hacking, and shootouts in a world where megacorporations have definitively replaced states.
SIGNALIS is a dark horror game with retrofuturistic aesthetics, where android Elster explores an abandoned facility, encounters nightmares and biomechanical creatures, and uncovers a story about memory, identity, and the collapse of reality.
The Red Strings Club is a story-driven cyberpunk game about a bartender, a hacker, and an android who try to stop a corporate project designed to control human emotions through cybernetic implants.
Technobabylon is a point-and-click adventure in the spirit of classic cyberpunk, where police agents investigate crimes in a future city dependent on virtual reality, surveillance, and artificial intelligence.
Invisible, Inc. is a tactical stealth game about spies infiltrating megacorporate offices, hacking security systems, and trying to survive in a world of total corporate control.
Neon White is an action game about assassins in the afterlife, where cyberpunk aesthetics mix with parkour, card-based abilities, and speedrunning-style level design.
E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy is a hybrid of shooter, RPG, and immersive sim about a secret order, corporations, conspiracies, psionics, and cybernetic implants in an extremely bleak future.
