A wonderful and interesting game in the world of BATTLETECH on MechWarrior - combat robots. Combat robots have always been popular and this game is a worthy implementation of the idea of robotics. Partially reminiscent of Mercenaries, since here you also have your own ship and a link-spear of Mechs, and a very large selection of planets and action options. And yes, you will only have 4 mechs with pilots without reinforcements for the mission, which you can lose, this is still a tactical game.
Pros.
- The graphics are decent, not perfect, but pleasing to the eye. The trees, terrain and mechs look good. Using a weapon always evokes pleasant emotions; the weapon has its own sound, color and action options. The furs run, generate dust, heat up, and all this is displayed in the game. If desired, you can turn on the cinematic camera.
- Tactics in each battle are individual, since the enemy’s mechs change when the start of the mission is loaded, so going for a breach is not always right, leading to very expensive repairs and the possible loss of the pilot. There are a lot of options for the task and subsequent decisions, since enemy reinforcements in missions happen often and at the wrong time, which only increases the interest in the game.
- The soundtrack is pleasant and does not cause negative emotions during the game, the music does not interfere and corresponds to the period of the game, the pilots have their own phrases and voice acting.
- A large number and detailed design of Mechs, different types (light, medium, heavy, assault) and different types of versions, each with its own pros and cons, in the form of weapon suspension points and thermal efficiency. There is no way to equip the mechs depending on your preferences, everything depends on the possible suspension points and the weight of the mech - the weight of the mech cannot be exceeded, so you have to choose between armor (can be reduced or increased) and the corresponding weapon, the weight of which is strictly defined.
- There is a plot, but it is more needed so that when you get bored doing tasks on other planets, you can add some purpose to your quest. The plot does not push you and does not require you to quickly complete it; you can start completing story missions after any intervals of game time.
- Very interesting space and factions, with their own modifications of Mechs and attitude towards you, by completing their tasks you increase your loyalty.
- The economy is there and very functional, but you won’t be able to earn much on missions; when concluding a contract, you choose between trophies (parts of mechs and weapons) and a monetary reward, so it’s better to avoid critical losses and damage.
- The battles are exciting and interesting, since you will always have a numerical advantage against you, it is important not to forget to maneuver, about close combat and not to expose the Mech’s rear to the enemy.
- The localization is excellent, everything is translated, there are subtitles, there are minor errors, you can play with an average knowledge of English.
Cons
- The hitting system is 95% familiar from the UFO series of games, but you can miss almost point-blank, even despite the pumped-up characteristics of the pilot. But the enemy can also miss you.
- There is no quick save, which, no matter how logical it is, is a tactical game, but is completely inconvenient for a spoiled user.
- Pilot perks, you can only choose 3 perks in 4 characteristics. The first two are required in the first characteristics and one in the second. You can't reset it, no way.
In general, the game turned out to be very rich and lively, active, with its own soul, it may seem cold, but these are steel machines, they evoke sympathy with their steel beauty and hidden power. The game has unlimited possibilities for modifying and customizing the fur, as well as the spear link, to suit your playing style, your desire and mood. A worthy successor to the series.
