Games Darkest Dungeon: The Butcher's Circus All reviews Review from DonSancho

The company will wait, it's time to kill!

Even in the absence of bread, the people do not cease to demand spectacles. The circus is designed to give the rabble what they want!

If fighting with the usual evil spirits has become boring and you want to compete with other players, welcome to the arena. Slightly different battle rules apply here, and the characteristics and skills of the characters differ significantly from those that are familiar to us from the story. The combat mechanics may seem unusual at first... But look around! :)

In PvP mode there is no longer a speed indicator and the order of characters is determined by the player. Think through all your actions in advance! Many of the fighters' techniques have changed. Blows that previously only caused direct damage are now often capable of causing poisoning or bleeding, a consciousness-damaging effect has appeared, forcing the warrior exposed to it to go last, and many blows and buffs can only be seen in the circus arena. Such a number of innovations surprises at first, but once you understand, you no longer want to tear yourself away from what is happening. The killing mechanics have changed. It is no longer enough to simply bring your enemies' health points to zero. When the red stripe has disappeared, it is necessary to strike a decisive, fatal blow, which will certainly end the life of the enemy. But the enemy may well survive a couple of such “fatalities” and take the life of your character himself. By the way, it’s also not possible to make your opponent get poisoned or bleed to death. Only mastery of hand-to-hand combat will help lead the enemy to the grave.

Awards and battle decorations are completely different from those familiar from the main story campaign. For successfully completed battles, the player will gradually unlock new useful items for the characters, and will also be able to decorate his coat of arms with formidable symbols, demonstrating that this is not a pathetic recruit, but a gladiator who has gone through more than a dozen battles!

I would also like to mention the perfectly balanced performance of the battle participants. There are no weak or too strong warriors here. Everyone has their own strengths and vulnerabilities. The composition of the teams depends only on the player’s preferences and you can emerge victorious from any fight, you just need to think through your moves like in a chess game.

Be brave, the crowd loves the brave!
