Games Dino Crisis 2 All reviews Review from TravisBincle

Unlike the first part, where there was zoo-horror, darkness, and atmosphere, the second is more reminiscent of a very bright sci-fi shooter, which did not benefit the game.

What can you come up with that would at least somehow pass the game off as a sequel? Template in the style of “evil scientists continued their experiments...”. But in order to somehow play on originality, they added elements of time travel. Roughly speaking: something went wrong on the next island, and it was somehow transported back in time, right back to the time of the dinosaurs. To figure out what was what, a detachment was sent (which included the main character of the 1st part). And then: evil scientists, running through the timeline and a very vague ending.

If the first game had an interesting balance of action and riddles, here the bias went in the first direction. Players will shoot a lot and tediously at everything that moves. And sometimes look for clues to move on. And in fact, this was to the benefit of the game, because everything that happens really resembles a science fiction action movie, and running around looking for another figurine in an abandoned laboratory would rather get boring. Well, it’s really interesting to shoot here.

And to further simplify the gameplay, points were introduced. When you kill a dinosaur, you get points to spend on ammunition, weapons, armor, etc.

The only downside to all this is the graphics. The game came out on PC in 2003, but the models, textures and rear views are still stuck in 1998. Why the Japanese were too lazy to somehow brighten up the game on computers is a million-dollar question.

Now the game will only evoke pleasant and nostalgic impressions of games on PS1. What can I say: it’s nice to play it even now. It's a shame the series wasn't continued.
