The concept in the game is completely different than in previous games in the series where, as far as I know, the main thing is to complete the map, preferably quickly, there was even a timer indicating the time it took to complete the map, comparing it with the “reference” one. For points and time there is an arcade mode. But the most important thing that defines the genre remains. Shootouts, a variety of weapons, monsters, items, beautiful maps with secrets that influence the progress of the game and simply create a pleasant experience. In the new one, “a demonic presence has been discovered” and while they appear, you will not go further. Because of this, it is extremely rare, but there may be bugs if at least one monster gets stuck in the textures and cannot be reached. You'll have to reload the checkpoint. Or you yourself can get stuck in the textures after finishing off. I also saw this in a single player game. The game has a “headshot” - it seems like this is the first game in the Doom series to have one. There are not enough maps, I agree, everyone says that it goes through quickly. But everything there is thought out for leveling up the character. Many players are usually against leveling up in shooters, but this, as I understand it, concerns battles between players, and not single games. For a single player game this is just fine. So the first time I played carelessly, being deeply confident that I was choosing the right modifications for weapons from flying drones. It was also surprising how it was possible to make them in such a way that you didn’t even have to choose: one was clearly useful, the other was useless, but I didn’t use a super shotgun, a machine gun or pieces of equipment. I went ahead with something more powerful. With a rocket launcher, a Gauss cannon and a BFG, often reloading and trying different approaches, fortunately the game allows itself to be completed. How wrong I was. After all, the game allows you to replay completed maps, collect what has been forgotten, or try to more carefully search for secrets, while at the same time fulfilling certain conditions for the final upgrade of weapon modifications and runes. Being already more pumped up and equipped, it becomes easier to show off than going through the map for the first time and it’s worth it. This is not always easy. One rune can be upgraded by selecting armor to the maximum possible, that is, not necessarily up to two hundred units, but to the extent of your level. So I found a place where, next to the control point, this can be done immediately. And I rebooted several times, fortunately it didn’t take much - only twelve times, and during the course of the game I deliberately switched to this rune before raising the maximum armor. Nerdishness. But hitting four different demons with micro-missiles from an assault rifle - I don’t yet remember the scene where I did this. As I understand it, it’s enough just to hit and not kill, otherwise the task is impossible, as it seems to me. Unless with quadruple amplification. The problem with many of these shooters is the use of weapons as you progress through the game, when at the beginning you use weak weapons, and then they are not needed. This was partially overcome: passing runic tests with a certain type of weapon, some moments in the campaign itself, pumping up weapons. From an assault rifle, it is sometimes good to shoot reinforced bullets with a sight, and take out a plasma gun for an alternative attack with a jammer or thermal shock. The "heavy fire" modification of the combat shotgun can be finally improved by killing five mancubuses. The combat shotgun is given at the beginning of the first map, and the mancubus is not coming soon, as is the super shotgun a little later. So it makes more sense to use a pumped-up single-barrel shotgun. And in general, when any weapon runs out of ammunition, the autoswitch automatically switches to that weapon. It is impossible to change this in the game settings; it is possible that there is some config in the game files where everything can be “binded” or with a command in the console - all this is probably only for the PC version. And use the chainsaw at least once for the sake of leveling up, effectively sawing up a cacodemon, even though it’s useful to use it for the sake of dropping ammunition. Only one pistol, which shoots endlessly, is not useful, except for some tricks and at the beginning of the game, when the ammunition is completely gone. I need to try pumping up the gun, I wonder how much more effective it will be. And they will not hesitate to use BFG and items of equipment. There is enough ammunition for everyone, especially with a pumped up ammunition drop rune when ammunition also drops out quite often for the BFG. And the loss of hit points, ammunition and, optionally by rune, armor from monsters motivates the player to go straight into the chaos, performing finishing moves or massacres with a chainsaw. However, it doesn’t have to be so close, because the very first available rune, “vacuum cleaner,” allows you to pick up the goodies that fall out from some distance, until you decide that it’s time to occupy one of the available cells with another rune. Interesting, thoughtful, deep gameplay.
Also worth noting is the excellent multiplayer. For an interesting selection of weapons, maps, and other features. And, most importantly, you can see how they tried to make it balanced and fair for all players. in which the skill of the players decides, and not other levels of pumping or additional skills, as in some games.
