Etrian Odyssey 2: Heroes of Lagaard — In classic fashion, players navigate forest locations one "step" at a time, moving and turning at a fixed pace. Time only passes when an action is taken, making movement, encounters, and combat completely turn-based. While randomly generated enemies cannot be detected in advance, some more powerful "foreign enemies" can usually be seen on the map and avoided if necessary, although "foreign enemies" still respawn every 3 in-game days. The game uses a first-person perspective to present the maze, using a combination of relatively simple 3D computer graphics for the environments and single-frame 2D sprites for the enemies.
