Multiplatform shooter-action Far Cry 3 with RPG elements was released by Ubisoft in 2012 and immediately gained immense popularity. The game is dedicated to survival on islands in the Pacific Ocean, where tourists-players, accidentally stranded far from civilization, law, and order, must survive in single-player, cooperative, or multiplayer battles with local fauna, pirates, and mercenaries.
Did I ever tell you what the definition of insanity is? It's Far Cry 3 — a first-person shooter in a vast open world, with action elements, leveling up, and survival from Ubisoft Montreal! Since Far Cry 2 , the developers have radically revised the game mechanics, invented a lot of new things, and attracted players with an exciting plot featuring numerous characters and unusual gameplay.
The events of Far Cry 3 unfold on the fictional Rook archipelago. It consists of large Northern and Southern islands (single-player game) and smaller islands for cooperative and multiplayer modes.
The archipelago is made according to the stereotype of a "paradise place": tropical climate, blue sea, golden beaches, dense jungles, mountain rivers and small lakes, high mountains, and numerous underwater caves. All of this can be explored by the player and will be rewarded.
The mesmerizing landscape is complemented by numerous fauna: dogs, deer, bears, tigers, panthers, snakes, sharks, crocodiles, and other inhabitants make the world alive. You can also interact with the flora.
The world of Far Cry 3 lives its own life and is far from friendly to the player. Besides predatory creatures and dangerous places where you can fall or stumble, the islands are inhabited by pirates, bandits, and mercenaries. The only allies are the Rakyat tribe, who have lived on the islands since ancient times, combining new technologies and old traditions.
At the time of its release, Far Cry 3 set new standards in terms of graphics quality, the degree of detail, and the elaboration of the game world. The jungles have never looked so natural, with their own rules and laws, and wild areas are interspersed with small inhabited settlements.
In all modes of Far Cry 3, the basic gameplay is similar. The main role is played by six types of weapons — pistols, submachine guns, rifles, machine guns, sniper rifles, and various exotic weapons. There is also different equipment — a bulletproof vest, wallet, bag, and wingsuit.
Weapons are improved through various modifications, and there are also unique "golden" guns with superior characteristics. Animals can be killed to improve your equipment, and the gifts of nature can be used to craft various potions-syringes: for health, speed, intuition, and so on.
In some modes, transportation is used for movement: cars, buggies with machine guns, inflatable boats.
The campaign is the simplest mode, in which the player learns the basic skills. Their task is to capture radio towers to open new zones. In each zone, there are one to three enemy camps that need to be cleared, after which they are occupied by the Rakyat.
You can run into enemies just by traveling around the map, but they do not try to reclaim settlements themselves. Killing enemies, hunting animals, exploring the game world, and picking up gear and upgrades from various boxes, the player gains experience, which is spent on upgrading their character and new abilities.
Over time, you can learn to kill multiple enemies at once, extend the duration of drugs, or run indefinitely.
The story of Far Cry 3 immediately captivates and constantly intrigues. It all starts with a group of friends who are into extreme adventures.
During one of their parachute jumps, the group lands on an unfamiliar island that only seems uninhabited. The tourists are quickly captured by local pirates, whose leader, Vaas, demonstrates his madness with strange speeches and a penchant for brutal killings.
The main character is named Jason Brody, and he, along with his brothers Riley and Grant, friends Oliver and Keith, and girls Daisy and Liza, find themselves imprisoned. By a stroke of luck, Jason manages to escape, after which he is found by the local Rakyat leader Dennis Rogers, who briefly explains the situation.
It turns out that the archipelago has long been captured by pirates working for the region's largest slave trader, drug lord, and arms dealer, Hoyt Volker, who is protected by mercenaries. Both groups terrorize the Rakyat and send unlucky tourists as slaves.
Now Jason must free his friends, kill Vaas and Hoyt, and meet several important secondary characters — the mushroom-obsessed Dr. Earnhardt, the queen of all Rakyat Citra, and CIA agent Willis Huntley. Each will hold keys to the final battle.
Far Cry 3 has its own co-op mode, designed for highly coordinated team actions from 2 to 4 players. The difficulty is automatically adjusted to the level and number of players, encouraging multiple playthroughs. The action takes place on linear levels, in the form of small islands of the archipelago.
The story here is different: four "soldiers of fortune" are abandoned by their captain and must fight through hordes of pirates and mercenaries to reach a boat that will take them away. Players can choose from Scottish gangster Callum, former cop Leonard, Russian mercenary Mikhail, and former US Army soldier Trisha.
At the beginning of the game, the character selects weapons and gear suitable for the role they want to play in the team, although there are no strict classes. Players can create a "set" for a sniper or an assault trooper and switch between rounds without changing characters. Progression is present but in a different form: the more kills you make and the higher your level, the better weapons and modifications you get.
Victory here is more important than the story — hordes of enemies can be destroyed in various ways.
The game also features a typical shooter multiplayer — shoot enemies, earn points, complete objectives on the map, and respawn at a new point after death. Progression is generally similar to the co-op mode — you need to play a lot, level up, and improve your weapons to become a strong player.
Far Cry 3 multiplayer is designed for two teams of 8-16 players and 15 minutes of battle, offering three modes:
- Team Deathmatch, where you need to kill all the enemies before time runs out. The team that kills more than the other wins.
- присутствует собственный редактор, что позволило сообществу создать множество разных карт;
- отличная озвучка на русском: персонажи ругаются матом и не стесняются в выражениях;
- многочисленные отсылки к другим играм Ubisoft, а также три линии с недоставленными письмами японских солдат Второй мировой усиливают эффект погружения.
