Games Max Payne 3 All reviews Review from Donte

A curious attempt by a company that has been making games about bandits all its life, to try to continue the delicate work of the Finns. The first two Max Payne games shook up the gaming industry with its cinematic gameplay and the very personal story of a police officer who lost his wife and daughter and described in monologues how bad he felt.

Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. From a gameplay perspective, Max Payne 3 is excellent. The developers refreshed the already quite outdated mechanics at that time; in 2012, the third part looked like a perfect action game (today only projects for PS4 and Xbox One look like that). The weapon inventory was excellently implemented here. Max could only carry two weapons at a time; he did not have shapeless pockets that could hold an unlimited number of rifles and pistols). When he reloaded one weapon, it was clear how difficult it was for him to hold the second gun at the moment. It was cool.

But one thing Rockstar Games failed to do. It turned out that the company could not create a story that would be very different from what we saw in GTA. Therefore, in Max Payne 3 we found ourselves in the center of the usual gang warfare. The characters around Max were not particularly memorable, and he himself attracted attention mainly for his endless drinking and shaving his head (fans were terribly shocked when they found out, but in principle this moment is justified by the plot). Long monologues have not gone away, and they were, perhaps, an advantage of the game.

It turned out to be a somewhat contradictory game. I was able to accept it because I was never much of a fan of the first two Max Paynes. Therefore, I fully enjoyed the mechanics of the game.
