NASCAR '14, not surprisingly, is not a next-gen project. This is a car simulator and also a sports game, because here we take part in sports racing. The game developers Eutechnyx, in addition to this driving simulator, have made many races and more.
At first glance, the game looks good: the menu is beautifully animated, the car models have a clearly defined outline, and generally look realistic if played in 3rd person. Despite the fact that PhysX from Nvidia was used, I was almost unable to see realistic physics, mainly due to the fact that each race is quite boring and accidents can only happen through your fault. But you can still feel the physics, especially when you play from the perspective of the driver. There were no delays. There are almost no cut scenes, and if you do get them, they are not long, and they are executed quite well. We talked about the good, let's talk about the bad. The track itself looks good, but not in the rearview mirror, the road is washed out, like the cars themselves. I also didn’t like the fact that the spectators sitting in the stadium were in 2D, as if you were driving past cardboard figures. The terrain around the stadium, in my opinion, is too unclear and often not believable at all. And finally, finishing the topic about graphics, I’ll tell you about the driver’s cockpit. In a nutshell – “normal”, oh, wait, that’s one word, then – “looks normal”. Overall, it’s done nicely, but there’s no feeling that you’re the one driving it.
There is no plot in the game, as well as the main character, so my review is reduced by about one third.
When playing in career mode, you need to write information about your character. First name, last name, gender, number you will drive under, and all that. In each new competition, you can set the settings so that after an unsuccessful encounter with a wall, this is reflected in the car. The status of your car will be displayed on the right of the screen, and if you see that the wheel is about to fly into your opponent, and the engine will die in the middle of the track, then quickly drag the shiny back of your carriage to the pit stop, where you will be repaired, but only if it’s not Duel and not Race (they are almost the same). You can also stop there to refuel. A simple and convenient interface helps you understand where something broke, where you need to slow down, and how fast the car accelerated. After the day's competition, money is transferred, for which you can improve the car. There are a lot of maps, but they are all the same, the only way they differ is in the size of the tracks. There are no missions here, here, drive the fastest lap (meaning, in the least amount of time), there, come first. The game is not difficult if you follow the rules and follow the signals that come when turning. In career mode, you can decorate your car however you like, you can ride every day, on different maps, in different competitions. You can also increase the difficulty of the races and choose a different car tuning, but it’s better not to do this, since most likely it will only get worse, because each map has already had its own tuning. You can always practice in a single or just arrange your own event on this day. You can spend a lot of time in the game, or you can race a couple of times and that’s it, it’s up to you.
