Games Ori and the Blind Forest All reviews Review from Jackie

An exemplary platformer, which, unfortunately, obviously gave me hope for a high-quality dramatic story.

It’s not that it doesn’t exist, it’s just that at various exhibitions the developers actively showed the most “live” moments, as if saying: “Our game is not a dummy! We have a deep message and something to cry about!” And only at the end they showed all the details of the gameplay. In the end, everything turned out to be as usual: a minimum of plot points, a maximum of gameplay. But I will still say that in those rare moments when the plot reminds itself of itself (and this is about 5-6 times), the game is still capable of touching, and excellent music plays a significant role here. Right off the bat, the game’s music is amazing and perfectly emphasizes the epic or dramatic nature of the moment.

Well, not much can be said about the gameplay. We jump on platforms, kill small and not so small mobs, and sometimes ignore them, collect points, save princesses. In general, we do the same thing as in other platformers. I can’t go into small details because... There’s nothing simple to say, but it plays very nicely. Pumping, perhaps, seems completely unnecessary. Also, throughout the game we gain the ability to jump higher, “push off” from an enemy or his shot in order to fly higher or move further, and these same elements only emphasize that the developers know how to make the platformer more interesting, and do not forget to put us in conditions when it is necessary to use all previously acquired abilities.

In general, I recommend it to all fans of platformers. All those who, like me, expected an emphasis on the plot... well... enjoy a good platformer and a rare plot with fabulous music and good art design.
