After the first part and the weak demo, I had no desire to play Outlast 2. But still, I decided to install it to test the possibility of changing the resolution and hacking the viewing angle for screenshots. But since there was a slight difficulty in finding the coordinates of the character, I had to play through the game a little, and in the end I went all the way to the credits, just out of curiosity.
The predecessor lured us into a closed location, where we were surrounded by walls and not always open doors of a psychiatric hospital. At first it was even annoying and sometimes you could get scared, but Outlast 2 took a new path. The developers threw us into small but open spaces, and then forced us to wander among small houses, fields, forests and sometimes large buildings. In short, we ended up in a village, and there are also religious fanatics who stole the main character’s wife. And so, in the role of journalist Blake Langermann, we are sent to look for his wife, and also shoot a video about his adventures (for the sake of views from YouTube, people are ready to do anything).
Now a video is actually recorded near some objects, which you can then play back and hear the comments of the GG. Also scattered throughout the game are all sorts of notes with stories of the inhabitants of this place.
Let's return to the locations and main gameplay. Now we are not surrounded by walls, we have the opportunity to bypass the villagers using roundabout routes, and if they notice us, we can always run away. Unfortunately, because of this, fear is no longer felt and what is happening turns into a fun run from psychos. Well, I had fun running from the woman with the scythe, I don’t know about you. I think she fell in love with GG and didn't want him to return to his wife. It’s also worth noting the death scenes: sometimes I’ll get something chopped off, sometimes I’ll be pierced, or worse. These animations are well done, although often repetitive.
Running is good for the body, but not for playing, already in the middle it becomes boring, but there is no fear at all. Perhaps, due to the sounds and the general atmosphere, some will be scared, but it depends only on you. The only place where it was at least sometimes alarming was school, but by the end of the game it began to get boring.
Despite the weak gameplay, I still recommend playing this game, if only for the sake of the plot. But I warn you, Outlast 2 does not give direct answers, you need to look for them yourself in the notes, videos of the hero, phrases of the characters, and it’s worth remembering the corporation from the first part. If you can't figure it out, the game will seem like some kind of nonsense to you.
Although the script was well developed, unfortunately, the characters are not memorable and appear very rarely. And I really wanted to talk to some of them...
