Realism on a reduced scale
This is exactly what can be said about the game called RED ORCHESTRA 2 HEROES OF STALINGRAD (hereinafter referred to as RO 2 or RO 2). Speaking of realism, I immediately remember the good old Arma. Yes, this game has a little bit of that , what we encountered in Arma, but unlike Arma, we do not have to overcome huge distances in order to die from one bullet and overcome this distance again. But first things first.
As you already understood from the name, the battles will take place in the destroyed Stalingrad. What is so special? Small streets filled with ruins of houses. Huge high-rise buildings that survived the bombing, destroyed equipment. Around every corner, in any place, danger awaits you. No such a place where you hide and they won’t get you. If they don’t kill you with a weapon, then they will get you with a grenade. One of the main principles: movement is life. Staying in place is even more dangerous than trying to run to the next shelter under fire. Be it small streets residential, where a machine gunner taking the right position will not let you take a step, or huge areas where you will be in full view.
Let's talk about the gameplay features of the game. One of the first advantages is the anatomical damage system: if you get hit in the leg, you will run slower. If you get hit in the arm, your accuracy will be worse. But if you hit the head, then there is no chance. There is also a morality system , our fighter, is not a hero or a superman, who is not afraid of anything. If a fighter comes under fire, be it artillery or just a machine gunner pinning you down and not letting you raise your head. Your fighter will be suppressed, the accuracy will be lower, and the screen will darken, which adds another plus to the realism treasury. But if the squad leader is next to you, then he can raise your spirit and the effect of suppression will decrease a little.
Usually in shooters we run at full height and don’t think about positions such as sitting (crouched, that is), and especially lying down, but not in this game. Here you have to bite into the ground and often crawl and run across from cover to cover. You can’t run at full height, this is the first step on the path to a quick death. Also, the first-person view allows you to feel realism. It’s safe behind the cover, but you can’t see anything. Therefore, you have to lean out, it’s not always safe, but you’ll gape , then before you know it, you’ll have taken a bullet. Since I’ve already talked about shelters, I should mention the shelter system, which is a rarity in games, especially multiplayer ones.
Another feature of the game is that it (the game) does not forgive mistakes and you have to pay dearly for it (the mistake). I didn’t examine the area, I decided to run across. Bam! And you were shot. I saw how your teammates ran to the next point, but the enemy machine gunner killed them, and you, at the behest of a stately feeling, ran after them, then you die too. You can also accidentally kill your own. For example, you decided to throw a grenade, and pulled the pin , but didn’t have time to throw, the enemy shot him. If you’re lucky, your teammates will have time to escape, then you’re lucky, but there are times when you can’t run out of cover at the moment. And there’s no turning back, the pin is pulled, the grenade works. This only enhances the realism, since such There were cases in real wars.
I’ll also note two, but small, minuses. The first is that after 200-300 hours of playing, you get used to the game and it loses complexity for you: you already know good points for a machine gun; you know where you can run and where It’s better not to flutter. The second disadvantage is that the game is too cruel to beginners. As I said, the game does not forgive mistakes and quite a few remain in the game, so the audience for the game is very small. But in the new part of rising storm 2 Vietnam, the developers paid attention to this attention to aspect, let's see what happens.
So, if you want to play a game with a level of realism a little lower than in Arma, then this RO2 is worth taking. You will wean yourself from thoughtlessly holding down the LMB and will already be prepared for more serious games.
