Even before the release of The Medium, the developers from Bloober Team became famous for their horror dialogue Layers of Fear and breathed new life into the genre, so I, as a big fan of this genre, was really looking forward to The Medium, their new project.
The game turned out to be incredibly atmospheric, dark and frightening, both in its history and what is happening on the screen right now.
As a result, the game turned out to be even cooler than I expected when I watched the trailers.
A fixed camera, reminiscent of the first parts of Silent Hill, incredibly atmospheric locations and gameplay features (the main one is the ability to move between two realities and see both at once on the same screen).
A very deep story with stunning details, a truly terrible enemy (his name is the Maw, if my memory serves me correctly).
Unlike the layers of fear, where the story was told through psychological “gags” and “tricks,” here everything is more clear, which allows you to follow the development of the plot without racking your brains.
There are also puzzles typical of old-school survival horror games (Resident Evil and the already mentioned Silent Hill); of course, almost all of them are simple, but there are also those that are really worth thinking about (for example, the puzzle with the clock in the hotel).
Excellent graphics, masterpiece sound and voice acting, although there are small problems with optimization, but these are mostly stuck sounds and sometimes slow down.
Conclusion:
The Medium is one of the best horror games since Silent Hill 2, in terms of story and design, but unfortunately not gameplay. Although it was created ideally for this game.
Now the developers of this masterpiece are working on a remake of "Silent Hill 2", and I am sure it will come out no worse than the original.
