Games The Witcher All reviews Review from Qarstong

The Witcher 1. The beginning of the illustrious trilogy of Polish RPGs. So what is this very “beginning”?

What initially caught my eye was so many laudatory reviews on Steam, where they tell how great and charming this game is. But looking at Geralt’s face from this part, I felt a certain slyness in their words. Is acting with THIS face really that good?

I would also like to say that I am a huge fan of Andrzej Sapkowski's books, and am also familiar with the other two Witcher games. And therefore, I know the ENT of this world completely, so there were no difficulties with the perception of the plot and narrative. And I can’t even imagine how everything that happens in the game would be accepted by a person who doesn’t know Geralt’s story.

So, about the RPG itself. How did I feel in the prologue? Engine problems. Crooked and entirely wooden animations, unattractive graphics and terrifying combat. These battle modes. Fast, strong, and aimed at a large number of opponents. It doesn't sound as bad as it actually is. All that is required is to periodically switch the battle mode and then click on enemies according to timing. End. No rolls, dodges, ripostes - without which the dynamics of the battle disappear.

However, with each new chapter I got used to all the inconveniences of the game (except, of course, the lack of normal running speed - and you have to run a lot, quests force you to move from one end of the map to the other several times) and became imbued with the plot and history . Even this terrible face of the witcher stopped overwhelming me so much. And already on the fourth chapter I literally fell in love with this creation of the gaming industry. I wanted the game to continue as long as possible, because everything had become so dear and close to me.

In general, to put it briefly, the game is made with soul, all its problems are exclusively technical and you quickly get used to them, and after that it begins to deliver immense pleasure.

Oh, I almost forgot, the sound engineer should pull his hands for such volume jumps in the dialogues! Here Geralt whispers calmly, and suddenly the volume of his voice increases 10 times, and what an echo it creates! Terrible job, sound engineer.
