Is it worth paying attention to the Thief reboot?
I won’t compare it with the original trilogy.
We can immediately say that this game can be recommended only to fans of stealth games; if you like hurricane action in games, then there is none here at all. I mean, most modern stealth games like Deus ex, Dishonored or Splinter Cell still give you the ability to smash everyone left and right as an alternative to stealth, but that's not Thief. On the one hand, there is some kind of combat here, but if you even try open combat in this game, you will never return to it, and therefore the whole game is precisely passing through locations unnoticed, searching for alternative paths, etc.
Now about the pros and cons for me personally:
-The plot, it’s nonsense, and if at the beginning there is no interesting plot, then by the end there is simply nothing, in the literal sense of the word, the ending is simply merged, I think.
-The already mentioned combat, it’s just as bad.
-There are many restrictions, that is, you can climb somewhere only where the developers have allowed, you just can’t jump somewhere. Those. Garrett knows how to jump from roof to roof, but he simply cannot jump, this leads to the fact that he cannot jump over a trap on the floor, for example, cannot fly somewhere where, in theory, a person would climb, etc.
-Although Garrett is a master thief, he does not have tools at the beginning and needs to buy them, it is strange that such a professional does not have the necessary things.
-There are also bugs in the game. For example, this happened: there were 2 guards, there was a switch behind one of them, I waited until it moved away, it didn’t move away, after a couple of minutes of waiting I saved and tried to enter from the other side, it didn’t work and I rebooted, as soon as I rebooted, the guard moved away from the switch. Those. The script did not start stupidly and when I rebooted it started working, this happened more than once. Moreover, it is interesting that when you reboot, the guards’ faces (skins) change, for example, now he is bald and with a mustache, and after the reboot the same guard has hair and is shaved, it seems that this is not a bug as such, but something like that. Also, the sound here let us down, maybe of course only in the Russian version, namely the volume of the voice here is strange, it can be very quiet for no reason, and it often happens that sleeping NPCs snore and it is not clear where the snoring comes from, what is it, it is very loud, and the source You can’t find it and it’s not clear whether it’s far or close, maybe on a different floor altogether.
-+Open-closed world (city). Those. from one side you can move around the entire city, there are many loopholes, but this is not a seamless world, constant loading between locations, just a simulator of opening windows and moving beams (transitions between parts of the city)
+ - The city itself. On the one hand, I understand that all the actions take place at night, plus the gloomy city has its own atmosphere. BUT damn it, the whole game from the prologue to the ending is monotonous despondency.
+Variability of passage, different loopholes, workarounds.
+The graphics are quite up to par even today, quite a nice picture
+In general, in general, a good game as a stealth game. At certain difficulty settings it becomes truly interesting to play.
+Several really interesting locations and tasks
In general, the game left a mixed impression and I counted more minuses in the game than pluses. But as you can see, I gave it a thumbs up. Why? Probably mainly for the last points because I love stealth games, I like to bypass enemies unnoticed and so on. There were also a couple of very atmospheric tasks in the game.
In general, this is a game purely about gameplay, if you like such games you should try it, fortunately the game is not expensive and if you have a sale you can buy it for about a hundred, quite a good price for this game.
School-style rating, I would give her a 3 plus or 4 with a big minus!
