Ubisoft has always made great games, of which only a few could proudly be called masterpieces. The unexpectedly appeared Valiant Hearts: The Great War is one of them, at least for me personally.
And it all started with a heartbreaking trailer, before watching which I was not very eager to play this creation from Ubisoft Montpellier. My extremely emotional and impressionable mind convinced me otherwise, and yet I managed to play through the game from an interesting beginning to the final tragic end.
As a game Valiant Hearts: The Great War is a puzzle game in the form of a 2D platformer on the UbiArt Framework engine. We play as several diverse heroes, whom fate has thrown on opposite sides of the barricades in a military conflict that is gaining momentum. The setting of the First World War itself is excellent: dilapidated occupied cities and numerous battlefields intensify and perfectly convey the atmosphere of horror and death.
My special thanks go to Ubisoft Montpellier for providing historical references that were not only informative, but also very interesting. Together with real photographs, they perfectly complemented the atmosphere of the war. The certificates told about literally everything, from the name of the place to such trifles as dates, number of killed and types of clothing of soldiers.
Valiant Hearts: The Great War is a delightful visual style, divinely selected musical compositions and a pleasant voice-over narration that created an incredible and heartfelt, without exaggeration, adventure, a story about courage and love for loved ones in difficult times, which will not leave you indifferent. As you progress, the game will provide you with useful information that you will certainly not forget.
P.S. And there is also a cute dog there :)
