A short preface. I am a very big fan of space simulators, and I got acquainted with this genre thanks to the amazing Freelancer, which at that time seemed simply the Best Game in the World, since I was drawn to space since childhood. Then, after some time, I saw X2: The Threaton the shelves, which from the first hours of the game amazed me with its depth: you could turn your head inside the ship and feel like you were literally in the pilot’s seat, and how many possibilities there were ... ships... eh...
Well, let's get back to our sheep. Rebirth I've been waiting for since the announcement, and most of all I had hopes for it because of the onset of the so-called “next gene”, when the developers stopped messing with the old Reunion engine and finally rolled out something fresh. But the game turned out to be a terrible failure. Seriously! Perhaps my review cannot be called objective for this reason, but I could not spend even a few hours in the game. There is absolutely nothing to do in it. If earlier the X Universe beckoned with its depths, now some incomprehensible highways have appeared that are supposed to ensure “seamlessness”, but in essence are the same gates, only without additional loading. It’s just that from the gate it was possible to jump through two points, but here the highway works in some sophisticated way, unfortunately, I still don’t understand how. In general, everything in the game has been simplified. Although returning the cockpit, which I mourned since Reunion, it is the same for all ships and, unlike Elite: Dangerous, is not so interactive.
The plot of the game is brutal nonsense, from the plot and motives of the hero to his development. In the same The Threat we also played as a new hero, but the plot was enticing from the very beginning and had its own twists. The stations have become huge, but not at all what I dreamed of seeing - now there is simply some kind of hefty poker that you need to fly around from all sides in order to see where you are offered a task.
The graphon is the only thing that can be praised in this game. It has nevertheless been improved, it has become more technologically advanced, and the game does not seem to slow down. The music still captivates with its beauty. Perhaps the soundtrack alone is worth paying money on Steam and listening to separately from the game.
