The Japanese studio Gainax, known to many viewers primarily for the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion, has been declared bankrupt. Before this, the studio had financial problems for many years.
Gainax filed for bankruptcy on May 29, and on June 7 it was accepted by the Tokyo District Court. The trademark is now owned by Studio Khara.
Financial setbacks have plagued the studio since 1992, when the sequel Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise was canceled due to production problems. Things got better with the release of the anime Evangelion, but then Gainax was caught for financial fraud and concealing income. In recent years, the studio has faced numerous lawsuits from other companies, and in 2019 its president, Tomohiro Maki, was arrested on charges of harassment.
In addition to Evangelion, Gainax has produced anime such as Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and FLCL.
Let us remind you that a trailer for the Suicide Squad anime was recently released, in which the Joker was shown.
