Last week marked the premiere of the animated film Moana 2, which has already broken records for global box office earnings. Reports indicate that it grossed $386.3 million in its first five days ($221 million in the U.S.). Notably, this surpasses the earnings of any other animated film over the same period.
The film's average rating on IMDb at the time of writing is 7.1.
The story follows the brave Moana as she embarks on new adventures across the perilous seas of Oceania, guided by the call of her ancestors. Interestingly, the demigod Maui is once again voiced by Dwayne Johnson, who will also portray the character in the upcoming live-action adaptation.
It's worth noting that the previous record holder for five-day box office earnings among animated films was The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which grossed $205.6 million in the U.S. alone (with total earnings reaching $1.362 billion).
