Microsoft faced a global Windows malfunction. Due to an error, the operations of companies, airports, banks, supermarkets, and TV channels were affected.

As it turned out, the fault lies with the Falcon program from the cybersecurity company CrowdStrike. Due to a faulty update, computers entered an infinite system recovery loop and could not start properly.

The «techno-apocalypse» impacted the operations of many large companies. Major airlines like American Airlines, United Airlines, and Delta Airlines canceled or delayed hundreds of flights, the British TV channel Sky News temporarily suspended broadcasting, and hospitals and police stations could not function properly. Australian authorities have already called for an emergency meeting. Regular users experienced the «blue screen of death» when launching Windows.

One X user reported that handwritten boarding passes were being issued at an Indian airport.

The global malfunction also affected the official Nintendo online store. Other gaming companies have not yet commented on the situation.

Reddit users have already created a separate thread to discuss the malfunction. One resident of the Philippines compared the malfunction to Thanos' snap, which disabled communication for half of the organization.

A solution that may help with the «blue screen of death» was also found on Reddit:

  1. Boot Windows into Safe Mode or the Windows Recovery Environment
  2. Navigate to the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike directory
  3. Locate the file matching «C-00000291*.sys», and delete it.
  4. Boot the host normally.
