According to The Verge, OpenAI plans to release its next language model, Orion, named after the famous constellation, in December.
Although Orion is positioned as the successor to GPT-4, it will initially be available only to partner companies. Microsoft engineers aim to deploy the language model on the Azure platform as early as November.
Orion's training was completed in September, around the time OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shared a cryptic message about the night sky and winter constellations. When The Verge asked ChatGPT to interpret the message, the AI identified the word «Orion» within it.
Around the same time, OpenAI announced the completion of its largest venture funding round, raising $6.6 billion, which boosted the startup's valuation to $157 billion at the start of October.
