The Splinter Cell adaptation starring Tom Hardy is officially canceled, according to producer Basil Iwanyk.
News of the spy film's development first emerged back in 2012, with Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman set to helm the project. However, updates on the movie eventually stopped.
«That movie would have been awesome... Just couldn't get it right, script-wise, budget-wise. But it was going to be great. We had a million different versions of it, but it was going to be hardcore and awesome. That's one of the ones that got away, which is really sad,» said Iwanyk.
Now, fans of Splinter Cell adaptations are left with the animated series Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, with Liev Schreiber set to voice the lead role.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft is working on a remake of the original Splinter Cell from 2002, rumored for a 2026 release.
